The almost perfect conference realignment scheme

Too late now but if the NCAA was forward thinking, they should have coordinated this or something similar years ago (in my opinion). Each conference would have 14 teams based on geography mostly. Every D1 football playing school would play in a league with every other school in its own state plus schools from a neighboring state or two (and each school in those states would also be in the conference). With all the new schools moving up like Kennesaw State etc. that has muddied the waters, but this is what I had a couple of years ago. I'll start with the most southern leagues in this post and add more in others. The conference names could certainly be changed
Southeastern Conference (Florida, Georgia and South Carolina)
1 Florida
2 Florida State
3 Miami
4 Central Florida
5 South Florida
6 Florida Atlantic
7 Florida International
8 South Carolina
9 Clemson
10 Coastal Carolina
11 Georgia
12 Georgia Tech
13 Georgia State
14 Georgia Southern
Southern Conference (Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi)
1 Alabama
2 Auburn
3 UAB
4 Troy
5 Arkansas
6 Arkansas State
7 Mississippi
8 Mississippi State
9 Southern Miss
10 LSU
11 Louisiana Tech
12 Louisiana Monroe
13 Louisiana Lafayette
14 Tulane
Midsouthern Conference (Tennessee. Kentucky, North Carolina, Missouri)
1 Tennessee
2 Vanderbilt
3 Middle Tennessee State
4 Memphis
5 Kentucky
6 Louisville
7 Western Kentucky
8 North Carolina
9 North Carolina State
10 Duke
11 Wake Forest
12 East Carolina
13 Appalachian State
14 Missouri (a stretch; probably the worst outlier)
South Central Conference (Texas, Oklahoma)
1 Texas
2 Texas State
3 North Texas
4 UTEP
5 SMU
6 Rice
7 Houston
8 Baylor
9 Texas Tech
10 Texas A&M

Arkansas would get thrown in the Texas league, because that’s just how things tend to work out.

Too many mouths to feed. The future of college football is 2 super leagues on the NFL model.
I do like your idea.

Not many things would cause me to stop watching college football, but this would probably do it.

This feels like a step back into the past. I'm not opposed to that.

quote:to Arkansas’ credit, they did just fine since 1992 not playing the Texas schools. They created a cache by being a wont say no to the sec program. Won multiple west divisions.

I think they’d be fine.

Where the frick is Kansas you dick

Why would Alabama want to give up its annual rival with Tennessee? And Missouri is Arkansas’s rival. You share a long border with them. It’s only natural.

Realignment isn't about geography, it's about money.
Your plan fails.

Iowa State

Missouri
Iowa State

Why would we include the directional schools. Leave them with the ncaa to rot

With such a large amount of teams we should just put these teams in a conference together:
Alabama
Arkansas
Auburn
Florida
Georgia
Kentucky
LSU
Miss St
Ole Miss
South Carolina
Tennessee
Vandy

PAC 10
Big 8
SWC 9
SEC 10
ACC 9
Big East 8
B1G 11
7 Conference Champs + 1 = Playoff
This would have been great.. but sadly it’s too late.

Bruh, realignments aside — I don't think I've noticed it before, but your username is on point.

Seeing how the SEC is the most successful conference and is made up of schools in contiguous states only, I’d say geography counts a great deal.

That’s a pretty good start there. “Dick,” Really? Where was the need for that? If you actually read the start of the post it stated I was starting with the most Southern schools first. In case you forgot, your jayhawking red leg sons a bitches raped and pillaged their way through Southern MIssouri and northwest Arkansas. Have you never seen Josey Wales you midwestern cornfed wheat waving trail to Colorado. That’s the only thing you’re good for is a mind numbing trip on I70 to the Rockies.
While we’re at it, the Hogs beat that arse in football and basketball this year, just saying.
When I get to your sorry assed hayseed league, feel free to comment again.
