cocktail party too since UF has officially given up on football and Georgia is all in on it

It’s not even a rivalry really anymore, Georgia tech vs Georgia is more heated and competitive now

6. USC vs. UCLA ("The Victory Bell")

The battle for Los Angeles began on September 28, 1929, when USC crushed UCLA 76-0. The Trojans hold a commanding series lead at 51-34-7. UCLA’s best stretch was an eight-game win streak from 1991 to 1998. USC’s most recent victory in 2024 maintains their one-game streak.

Legitimately didn't know this was considered a big rivalry still. UCLA has all but given up on football.

It's not a real rivalry until you've had an actual war between the two sides.

8. Oregon vs. Oregon State ("The Civil War")

This Oregon-based rivalry is one of the sport’s oldest. In 1983, the two teams played to a scoreless tie in what’s often dubbed one of the dullest games in history.

Despite moments like that, the rivalry has had its share of thrilling moments. Oregon leads the series at 67-49-10.

Dude nobody gives a frick about this game. I dont know that I have even ever watched it.

Interesting take. I felt it was still a strong rivalry when Florida won 14 out of 15 or whatever it was. I hated Florida with every fiber in my being

Oregon/Oregon State is a fun game actually. The two sides do not like each other one bit. Main issue here is that Oregon has completely dominated it the last 2 decades so it's lost it's luster. It's not quite Egg Bowl level of hate but it's solid.

USC/UCLA however should not be on this list. I'd have had Arizona/ASU above it.

Since WWII I think OU has a 1 game lead vs. Texas. About as even as it gets. Even Sark is 2-2 vs OU.

Red River 9th is bs

I've lived in Dallas 7 years and have been to a number of events during RR weekend.

I haven't seen one fight break out in any of those 7 years, and almost no arguments even. These teams may not like each other, but I feel like they don't get as "down and dirty" about it as other rivalries. I'm not saying it should be 9th, but OSU/Michigan and Auburn/Bama seem like fans legitimately would kill each other if they wouldn't go to jail. OU/Texas seems far more civil

As Lewis Grizzard said, that game is (usually) like watching two mules fighting over a turnip.

5. Florida State vs. Miami
This rivalry ignites Florida's football landscape, with just 150 miles separating the two schools. Since their first matchup on November 22, 1958, Florida State has maintained a 38-28-2 series lead. Florida State's most dominant period came with a nine-game winning streak from 1968 to 1976, while they currently hold a one-game win streak after their 2024 victory.

Idiots. They’re describing Florida vs F$U.

Whoever did this needs to have their ability to watch sports revoked. Not only does it say Florida State vs. Miami but then talk about 150 miles. They have the FSU leading the series when Florida Leads it, and the 2024 FSU victory is laughable.

that’s because Georgia was just going through some down years but the university athletic dept was still trying

The UAA has released a press release openly admitting that they don’t care about football anymore

Most Georgia fans are more worried about Tennessee, Mizzou and Kentucky the past few years when there were still divisions

There’s no more buzz around the cocktail party anymore because forida football is a dead program

Still the greatest quote in CFB history is when a reporter asked Woody Hayes why he went for two up by 36 and his response was, "because I couldn't go for three"

Unpopular opinion that nobody wants to say: Army-Navy is not a fun game. People keep placing it on a pedestal because it’s our service academies.

The game is boring, the offenses are archaic, the players are undersized, and the peak of the game was in 1960. I guess it’s ok to watch on what is essentially a bye week, but it has no business being in the top 5.

I'm surprised the writer didn't include Harvard v. Yale.

A true "rivalry" is when both teams are historically good, its fairly even on the series, there is hatred on both sides, and for bonus points its played at a neutral site (double bonus points if its split 50/50 the way Texas OU is).

Half those games above are not true rivalries. Which is why Texas vs OU will stay a rivalry unless ATM starts winning at historic clip the decade they lost the Texas vs ATM game lost all momentum of the rivalry. Its special and fun but to be a true rival you have to respect your opponent, Texas fans do not respect ATM. They will win but by and large Texas will always have the advantage. Same is not said for Texas vs OU if anything OU is admittedly by this Longhorn the better program.
