I prefer for the East to have coaches who aren't laughing stocks like Butch and Shark Fricker. Butch at Bama rocks. I just wish Auburn had employed Shark Fricker.

See, here's the thing: you never know how a successful coach at his position will do when he takes the step up.
Pruitt was a really good coordinator. So was Smart. So was McElwain. Pruitt could end up being either.
Vol fans don't have to look very far back in their recent history to find another really good Alabama defensive coach they hired and gave a promotion...and they rightfully were ready to run him out of town by mid-season.
Running an entire program requires a whole 'nother set of skills from being coordinator.

I think he will do a great job. I don't know if they have it in them to be contenders anymore, but he will definitely make them a tougher program. I say he goes to a bowl game his first season

He's taking over a team that went 4-8 as a 1st year HC, a 1st year OC, and a 1st year DC. He's got his work cut out for him to make UT into contenders.
