It has trickled down to the high school level, as well. Not even sure why they keep the band if they are just going to blare music over speakers so loudly it drowns everything else out
Went to a youth football game last Saturday. Granted, no bands, but they used the high school's sound system and play list the entire time. They even piped in the prerecorded donor advertisements. It was annoying as hell

Abo-fricking-lutely!!
Bands and fans, especially student sections, and the interactions between the two is the soul of the college football atmosphere compared to soulless NFL.
Music accompanied videos on the stadium's big screens in pregame or at lulls is one thing but no one needs the constant blare of that crap.

The other thing I hate is that all the stadiums do the same stuff. Same piped in hip hop stuff. Same stupid 3rd down clock, same stupid Seven Nation Army chant. Same stupid Gary Glitter song. Same stupid Bon Jovi song. Same stupid Neil Diamond song.
Never put thought into it as a whole, but this is extremely accurate. Yea every one has the one off. LSU callin Baton Rouge. UF free falling, but for the most part same crap different location

ya gotta bring in an opponent that is worthy of the atmosphere in order to get the atmosphere. Apparently you haven't brought anyone worthy to Death Valley to get the response you'd hoped for.

Yes we are! I can handle it except for the DJ thing; insufferable imo

“Funny you say this. Last week when we played Missouri I noticed how it seemed like we played very little music.”
I think State has done a good job of keeping it balanced. The band pregame is always good. They have some of light effects and some music during time outs but I don’t think it’s egregious by any means…During the ULM game they did a cool tribute to Dolly.
So I agree with you there.

I recall watching Texas vs Tennessee that all I could hear on TV was their actual band and no piped in BS. I was jealous. Is that the actual case at Neyland?

Yes, and looks like Auburn is one of the worst offenders.
Absolutely, wish the students would throw shite at that mf’er every time he tries to take over.

The TV Timeouts between snaps of the ball when momentum is swinging one way or the other makes the in person experience almost untenable if you are there for the game and not for the social gathering. It is not unusual at all, in fact it is common, for one team to be driving, make a first down and all of a sudden there is a 5-10 minute stoppage of play to sell Dr. Pepper. Its bad at home, its untenable in the stadium. I don't go to many games any longer because its simply too much work on a fall Saturday when I have other things I would rather be doing but the few games I do attend every year are fast approaching going to the air port level of frustration. I usually have a game on in the shop on Saturdays unless I am running the sawmill so I have quit watching CFB from noon to past midnight because of commercials....having a game on in the background is tenable because they at least keep the score up and have scores of other games but actually paying attention to anyone other than UGA and maybe a primetime night game is all I can take...and that is a case of barely tolerating it. Football is a game of momentum and emotion and long breaks in the actual game kill both....and the game is mostly Dr. Pepper commercials today.

I DVR some so I can skip the commercials and halftime.
You just have to avoid the scores being shown.

If anyone wants to bitch about something, it should be this. Only boomers get triggered over piped in music and lights.

While the Stadium DJ is a non-traditional change that does influence the dynamics of the crowd...we lost our stadium experience with the addition of Jumbotrons. After a big play, the stadiums used to get deafeningly loud. Now, most of the stadium gets so focused on waiting for the replay to run that they don't carry the same level of energy going into the next play.

It’s like every stadium has a DJ now. Half the fun of going to a live game is the crowd.
I haven't been to any true away games in a long time, so I can only speak to MU home games. It seems like the few times we do start a traditional cheer they always cut it short and blast some crappy music that maybe some of the students know. Hell, even the MIZ-ZOU call / response gets cut short - seems like that used to go on forever.
I find it ironic that the most raucous the crowd seems to get over any of the music is the entrance to Welcome to the Jungle (released 1987 - my freshman year) and Mr. Brightside (2003) - only because that's an opportunity to chant F kU regardless of who we are playing.
