I don’t see why the SEC needs a counter move, actually. I’m sure some will disagree.
Mizzou will get kicked out for Florida State or Clemson and I’m not kidding.

Tennessee would throw a fit if this happened.
Why? The Vols play Notre Dame in football fairly often. Would be a nice regular game.

It's still an easier road than going through the SEC but now he'll have to play Ohio St just to get to the CFP starting in 2024.

I haven't met a Fsu yet that's begging to come to the Sec. We are happy where we are and feel as though we will rise again and be great. We don't need the Sec for that. Now if we joined the Sec or any other conference we will roll with the punches.

By the time they're done with all their changes, I probably won't be a fan anymore. College Football was beautiful the way it was.
I would follow the FCS more, hell I’m already there.

how the frick does kansas add eyes on the tv? they suck except basketball. if you are going to do that, just take duke. frick kansas
Not saying I agree with that logic, but I could see it being used.

What's crazy, is the SEC has been able to do a lot of expansion without blowing up their geographic footprint, while the B1G (Big 10 or whatever) is going nationwide.
Mizzou used to be the outlier after the last expansion. Now with Oklahoma, Mizzou has borders with Tennessee, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Kentucky- 4 states with 5 member schools. That makes all the minor sports a bit more doable.
Even Notre Dame, you'd have the states of Indiana and Kentucky sharing a border.
The closest B1G state to California is Nebraska.

You don't just add to increase numbers as a counter move, but you add if it boosts the conference's revenues somehow while also being preemptive.
Duke and UNC would boost basketball and generate revenue...and be a geographical fit... although that is mattering less and less unfortunately. So you start there. Va Tech and FSU make sense. Tech adds Virginia in the footprint and FSU is probably one of the biggest national "brands" in the ACC, even if they don't add anything new really as far as the footprint goes. Makes all the sense in the world geographically and I'd like it because it would be a close away game lol.

People need to look at the old Southern Conference
The conference was formed on February 25, 1921 in Atlanta as fourteen member institutions split from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association.[1] Southern Conference charter members were Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi State, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Tennessee, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Washington & Lee. In 1922, six more universities – Florida, LSU, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tulane, and Vanderbilt joined the conference. The first year of competition for the conference was in 1922, effective January 1.[9][10] The new rules banned freshman play.[11] Later additions included Sewanee (1924), Virginia Military Institute (1924), and Duke (1929).
The SoCon is particularly notable for having spawned two other major conferences. In 1932, the 13 schools located south and west of the Appalachians (Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi, Mississippi State, University of the South (Sewanee), Tennessee, Tulane, and Vanderbilt) all departed the SoCon to form the Southeastern Conference (SEC). In 1953, seven additional schools (Clemson, Duke, Maryland, North Carolina, North Carolina State, South Carolina, and Wake Forest) withdrew from the SoCon to form the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC)
It got to big and broke in two.
If we are not careful, same thing will happen
"Too big and broke". That probably describes a lot of people on this board.

Big ten will get oregon and Washington
Notre dame will join because they have to at this point. That leaves one other team. Who knows who that will be
