Dawn Staley is the highest paid WBB coach in the land at $4M/yr.
If her contract was instead $0, South Carolina women's basketball would still be operating at a net deficit.
This is not sustainable. But its funny that South Carolina has destroyed its men's basketball, baseball and football programs (all had great success in the 2010s) to win some women's basketball games.

While you're statement isn't false, a big reason for this is SC puts more $$$ into WBB than any other SEC school.

Lets not get silly with the volleyball. College baseball is easily 4 if you look at attendance records.

women's basketball is, by far, the biggest drain on every AD in the SEC. Looking at several SEC schools profit/loss statements, it's insane how much money womens basketball programs lose every year, and they don't all invest in the sport like South Carolina. There's really no way for them to make money. The ones who win and generate more revenue through ticket sales, etc also spend a ton on coaching staffs. The ones who don't win and generate less revenue spend less on their coaching staffs. It's jus a really expensive sport with operating costs and, without the boost from TV revenue like mens bball and football get, it's just a massive dent to the deficit of the AD

All sports are financial straining besides football and MBK. I know nothing will change, but what a waste. Everyone needs a participation trophy.

Universities damned sure shouldn't be mandated by the government to maintain them.

I have some very controversial opinions about women's sports in general, having two daughters who grew up playing high level club and high school sports and both taking low D1/D2 recruiting trips before ultimately deciding to pass on playing college sports.
Most women's sports should be club level and colleges should not be mandated to have them. Also, there are a lot of predators involved in women's sports - both hetero and LGBT.

What sport is Miss State trying to win in?
Very hard to tell.

Add to this that how USCjr fans absolutely turn a blind eye to what an unsatisfactory person Staley is, it makes it really pathetic.

Two Things
Accounting in college sports is "fuzzy" at best. You make "make" lots of money but never show a "profit" officially.
While you chose a WBB salary, coaches salaries in general are the biggest reasons schools don't make profits.

Ya think?
And is there a particular reason you spend so much on WBB with zero chance of an ROI? Bragging rights?

quote:Hey dipstick. There is not one... not a single women's basketball program that does not lose money. The women's stats are equal to the men's stats in FG, 3point and free throw percentages. If you are so worthless that no woman will want, you then take it out on your parents and leave women out of your mouth. Your words say who you are. You are a menial lonely man without a shred of masculinity. Masculine men don't bash women. Punks do...

And like the OP stated if she was paid nothing they'd still be losing money as is the case with 99.9% of women's sports.
