Agreed. Which is why I’m not understanding the uproar. That’s the policy of this administration.
I think that is correct but there are many on this board defending tariffs as a policy to the extent that they post a bunch of cherry picked theory and drag up obscure examples (like Oren Cass!!) to try to bolster the idea.

I doubt you see too much of a manufacturing shift into the US. Maybe a portion, but I don’t think it will be statistically significant. I do think you will see countries negotiate and open up additional markets to the US.
Tariffs as a bargaining tool is fine but tariffs as a permanent policy is bad.

But we prefer to. Go find you a Harbor Freight this morning and you will see that it is busy. And most of these consumers are probably trump supporters.

We're already short on most all of those trades. We have very low unemployment and there are more open jobs than qualified people now. That's a problem.

in two years if the retirement portfolios and pension plans of millions of Americans are still down trillions of dollars, a lot of Republicans will be out on their asses. And JD Vance will have to forget about ever occupying the White House.
Bingo! This plan with tariffs could be the greatest there ever was but it doesnt mean doodly shite if the democrats come back to power and reverse everything. This is a long term fix but you must understand and be able to somehow minimize short term pain or all will be lost. This is a cold hard reality.

That's not what a lot of people on here are saying. Bottom line: using tariffs as a tool is a good thing but tariffs as a permanent policy is not.
