They aren't finding money. They are bleeding boosters and going into debt in order to stay competitive. In the end, it will all be sold off to private equity firms that will wreck the entire thing for good.

Investors want a return at some point. Very very few are willing to just burn the money up for "rah rah" reasons.

All you LSU frick STICKS that can’t get through your head how broken and embarrassing your program is, take note: your athletic department is a joke, your administration is a bunch of crooked embezzlers taking advantage of the LSU name and LA taxpayers, your football coach is a gypsy clown, and your team has no heart.
So glad we don’t have to deal with the LSU drama circus this year, but regret we can’t pound them into the sand like they deserve.

The University of Minnesota's athletics department is facing its second year in a row with a roughly $9 million deficit.
Leaders at Boise State University in Idaho reported a $2 million athletics deficit for fiscal 2026, but they hope to fill some of their budget gap by milking revenue from tailgaiters in university stadium parking lots, according to business news outlet BoiseDev.
