I would be cool with it but you need to get all other P5 leagues on board as well.

Not just this, but people have to realize that not every low-to-middling P5/G5 wants Bama, Georgia, or LSU on their schedule. They are struggling to get to a bowl game, why schedule an auto-loss?

Blowing out the rent-a-win teams are (in most cases) the only way to get a lot of young players some meaningful game reps. It would be really dumb to get rid of that opportunity.
Not to mention those games are what keep the lights on at these small schools’ athletic departments.
The only negative is the risk to injury for starters. All the more reason to play the freshmen.

All of this, and the opportunity to get cheap tickets for the family and take little kids to, to keep the tradition going. Got some UGA-Kent State tickets for Saturday for the little one and me, and cheap enough for me to give one to an old friend to join us. Nice relaxed family-friendly football atmosphere. Having one or two of these a season is great.

Getting rid of G5 will eliminate about 50 programs. That is about 4250 scholarships. At some point, the trickle down is going to hurt high school athletics.

Its way worse than that. How many other sports would shut down at these schools too. It would be a massive hit. And those high schoolers would not make the big schools and thwir dreams are over. Such a huge ripple effect. Without a shot at small schools you will see less HS enthusiasm as the slots open in college would shrink up.

Nope, bc they need to fund their athletic programs with that money.

Just give them the money and schedule a real team. Either that or make admission to those games free.

I like that but I also believe that we should be playing 9 conference games

Again, this is the difference between the East and the West

So many of the West schools have no longstanding OOC rival game

I watched the "Backyard Brawl" and these kind of games bring real value to the sport.

I think we should limit teams to one.

Ideally (if the P5 doesn't leave the NCAA to form their own league for football), each team should be allowed only one "non-P5" opponent each year. It can be G5 or AA. Since it looks like many (if not most) P5 conferences will have 9 conference games soon, that would mean 2 of their 3 conference games would have to be P5 opponents.

It may become P4 after reallignment is finished.

Those games are mostly uninteresting. However, to eliminate those games would most certainly doom many FCS teams. Their football budgets depend on that payout.

Regardless of all the talk that might come out of an AD or coach, the decision makers at the vast majority of Power 5 programs don't give a shite about helping those FCS or Group of 5 programs so that whole line of thought is really irrelevant. It is always going to be about getting those extra home games as the only thing that really matters. Programs want that gate revenue and the local businesses pressure the schools to get those visitors into the city an extra 2 or 3 saturdays a year. If they found a way to make sure that Tuscaloosa, Athens or Baton Rouge can maintain that cash coming into the city, when the next scheduling decisions come out, you will hear them say "FCWho?". Rent a wins don't matter as much any longer when it comes to being bowl eligible because the bowls will adjust. You can also play more P5 teams now and it won't screw your playoff hopes.

Scheduling may be more difficult than we think. Some games get cancelled and leave teams scrambling for games. No one wants bye weeks over winnable games.

Sometimes you get who you can and sometimes the schedulers are inept. But an SEC schedule alone is brutal enough and maybe some teams are just trying to get bowl eligible for recruiting purposes and a check.

I don’t care one way or another.

Maybe that's the best argument for it that I have heard and you have me thinking. But does 1 FCS team really mean a major shift in program dynamics?

Well it gives fans of even bad teams the chance to see their team look good.

Without that people stop buying tickets.

Look at the standings from last year

Mizzouri, USCe, and Florida were 3-5, 3-5, and 2-6 in conference games. But with cupcakes they were able to go to bowl games and their fans got to see at least twice as many wins.

Imagine that going on season after season with just 2-3 wins for the bottom teams. Eventually you end up with total apathy and collapse of the program. Looking at that chart there were only 4 teams that were over .500. Alabama, Ole Miss, Georgia, and Kentucky.

The rest of the SEC needs to nut up and start playing at least 2 P5 OOC.

The SEC was actually pretty shitty in 2020 and we were lucky we had no OCCs to show it.

do away with spring games and allow fbs teams to pay fcs teams to come play a spring game, maybe even two, fcs would still get paid, and fans would actually be thirsty enough to crave a fbs fcs matchup in the spring, cuts down on injuries too

If I were a chairman on a board of directors, and you were one of the directors on the board, I would fire you. And every other director would vote with me.

It’s not welfare when you help fund a bunch of kids college scholarships and they give up their body’s for 1/100th of what our athletes get bc they like football

If A$M wants to give any of them $5 million a year to kick our arse so be it, that’s the whole team’s tuition for a few years, your school can be greedy

In fairness, SEC games gives those schools money for their athletic programs.
