Should we do away with rent-a-win cupcake games?

I think we should. One of the best seasons was the all SEC season of 2020. There weren't any shitty opponents. The games were great. P5 teams should never play an FCS team, in my opinion. Maybe the group of 5 teams can play them but the P5 teams never should. Even still, I believe that we should play almost entirely a P5 schedule. That's my opinion, but honestly, I would rather watch a challenging game than watch us beat up on Central Arkansas.

That being said, watching Arkansas have to pull a miracle out of their arse at the end to beat Missouri State was entertaining.

Nope, bc they need to fund their athletic programs with that money. We took an L to a G5 in what has to be years, and that’s fine. If we close them out, who helps fund them? It’s not good for college football to freeze out the little guy just bc we ain’t as little

Those games are mostly uninteresting. However, to eliminate those games would most certainly doom many FCS teams. Their football budgets depend on that payout.

I would be cool with it but you need to get all other P5 leagues on board as well.

Depends on who the team is. I'm perfectly fine with teams playing G6 teams with deep Division 1 history, especially southern ones (Tulane, Memphis, Southern Miss for example). Some SEC schools have played these teams more than several current SEC members.

I don't, however, see the purpose of flying in a team from across the country, or playing teams that couldn't even compete in Division II

As a fan, yes it would be better.

But I am sure the coaches like it because it is a preseason for them. Lets them break their teams in. NFL gets a preseason (that doesn't count towards the record), so I guess college needs one too.

So, welfare, college football edition?

I disagree with this. FCS was never intended to compete with FBS. Let them manage a budget that fits their needs. Maybe the G5 can fund them. No reason for the P5 to take this on.

FCS doesn't play bigger teams because they think they can win.

It's for the money.

I agree with the need to keep small programs going bc it give incentivizes the high school kids and fuels development. I hate the argument that the only way to fund small programs is by playing them....especially multiple games a year.

If we move to 9 conference games, I'd like to see us max out the cupcakes at 1 game, add a buy week, and find a way to help share revenue with regionally appropriate FCS schools (aka SEC/Sunbelt, Big 10/MAC, Pac12/Mtn West etc). This could be done w a very small percentage of the new TV deal, a small percentage of gate, etc.

Unfortunately, greed will probably prevent this.
