Geographically, this makes much more sense than adding Arkansas, Missouri, Texas and Oklahoma.

Just sayin'.

SEC turns down Clempson and FSU?

I dont think we expand our conference further, just my take on the best 2 after Clem and FSU

Agreed. Oklahoma was a natural fit, has been for a while. I would venture to even say that the SEC wouldn't even get the 11 votes needed to approve FSU and Clemson, even if they brought the viewership numbers to justify it.

Possible no votes:
1. South Carolina
2. Georgia
3. Tennessee
4. Florida

What about Kentucky - another "no" vote?

You people aren't paying attention...

LINK /

quote:

The ACC has an ‘exit fee’ to leave the conference set right at about $52 million. I know what you’re thinking here: What’s the big deal? Clemson would make enough off its first year of television revenue payout in the SEC to cover that ‘exit fee’ and there’s a chance that the SEC would even pitch in to help.

While that exit number is doable, it’s the league’s Grant of Rights agreement that all but keeps schools locked into the conference.

For those who are unfamiliar, a Grant of Rights agreement is written permission from an institution- like Clemson- to relinquish control of television rights for the duration of the deal. The ACC’s deal is set to expire in 2036. If you leave the ACC, you forfeit the television earnings. So, when you total what Clemson might make off its ACC television payout, you’re talking hundreds of millions of dollars.

Neither team can afford to give up ALL of their TV money until 2036. Clemson and FSU aren't going anywhere (and neither is any other ACC team...)

UNC clear favorite if 2 more needed after Clem and FSU

how do people truly believe this? UNC/Duke are the ACC. The ACC is those schools. No way UNC is leaving.

NC State would be the #1 team to leave, and thats only if the state government would let them.

as far as Clemson or FSU goes...What happened to the agreement that USC, UGA, and UF had about letting their rivals in. Lots on here gave A&M shite about not wanting their rivals in, but those three schools had an agreement at one point. Which makes sense to me.

Just get us some nice vacation type ( spots) teams.

Lets get Hawaii and Miami in here !

A weekend in Lexington or Starkville doesn't jazz the wife all that much.

( To be honest a visit to Columbia Missouri isn't a big screaming deal either ! }

I agree, with 1 exception.

If the SEC and B1G worked together to expand with enough ACC schools, they could potentially dissolve the conference. I don’t know how many teams it would require, but it’s probably somewhere between 8 and 12. I have no idea how you make the money work, but that isn’t for me to decide.

B1G Candidates (AAU)
Georgia Tech
Pittsburgh
UNC
Duke
UVA
Notre Dame (not AAU but B1G would take them imo)

SEC Candidates
Most of the list above +
Clemson
Florida State
Miami
NC State
Virginia Tech
Louisville

Those are the options. Unless the SEC is working with the B1G to carve it up, the SEC would have to take all or none of those schools.

From a TV market perspective, Oklahoma and Texas do technically make more sense.

Geographically, FSU and Clemson make more sense.

I see the GOR and buyout mentioned for Clemson and Florida State often. But the math is there for it to be beneficial to move regardless. ACC paid out $35 million per team, and that would be the penalty each year for 10 years. $350 million. SEC payout expected to be $75 million plus in 2024. If it can be $80 million or more with these 4 new additions, that puts Clemson and Florida State minus the $35 million yearly penalty at a positive gain of $45 million.

Partly, I think. The other part is teams leaving mutual contracts in pursuit of a better contract.

I think this notion of ten years deals with a conference is coming to an end. Because you can't assume every member is going to like the deal. And honestly, trying to project value ten years into the future is a sucker play for everyone. I look for all these deals to get much, much shorter.

They don't only give up $35 mill, they have to give up a $50 million buyout PLUS any new tv money as well. They wouldn't see a profit on tv money until 2036.
