Rain delays have always been OU’s kryptonite.
Cost them a national championship against Bama in 2012.
It always screws them in football too. Rain delays make Sooners stupid for some reason.
That 2012 championship series was the first time I really started to get into softball. I think I'd watched a bit the previous year, but that Bama series is what hooked me on the sport, as heartbreaking as it ended up.
It's been pretty dang good ever since though. 7 titles in 11 years including 4 in a row, then the semis last year with legit hopes of a deep run again this year. Kinda crazy.
But I'm still angry beyond anything rational about the last 4 outs of today's game.

OU needs to win their series this weekend against A&M to clinch the 1 seed, right?
Posted on 5/1/26 at 3:01 pm to Sl0thstronautEsq
I think they just need one win

As of yesterday, they needed to win 2/3 to clinch the SEC regular season championship all to themselves. One win guaranteed at least a piece of first place.
And I think they were slightly ahead of Alabama for the tiebreaker as far as the #1 seed in the SEC tournament. It was really close though.
I'm not sure where everything stands right now, though I'm pretty sure no one has clinched anything other than arse cheeks so far.

OU has a 1/2 game lead over Alabama.
A Texas A&M sweep would be a very thoughtful gift.
As of now it stands:
OU: 18-4
Bama: 18-5
There is still the possibility for either team to win outright or share the title.

I appreciate the update.
So that would also mean 17-5 Florida still has a shot at an outright with 2 games to go, and 16-6 A&M can still get a share if they win out, correct?

Scheduling update:
OU @ A&M, as of now, is set to be a double-header for tomorrow at 12:15 and 4:00.
I haven't seen any changes for Arkansas @ Texas series yet. Game 2 is still set for 7:00 tonight per ESPN. Looks like the storms could possibly clear out by then. Game 3 is noon tomorrow.

That is too much math for a Friday afternoon. Suffice it to say it will come down to the last day.

Another big comeback in the works: Georgia, once down 7-2 to Florida in the 3rd, just scored 7 runs in the 5th to lead 9-7 going to the 6th.
Tennessee and Mizzou are tied 1-1 b3rd.
Ole Miss leads State 1-0 b3rd.

Florida tied it back up at 9-9 in the top of the 7th, and then Georgia walked it off 10-9 in the bottom. I think that takes the Gators out of having the championship all to themselves.

Again, not true. OU and Texas additions to the SEC just made the conference that much better. Going back a year, I said that very thing.
Happy to have you guys.

Only teams left that have a chance are OU Bama . OU just needs one more for second title . Two more for outright title .

Thanks. It's nice to not have to think before noon.
Pretty fun to see four teams still in it on the last day. This is so much better than having it wrapped up with a week or two to go.

Now we know why OU looked so out of sorts. Doesn’t fully excuse it as they should be able to play a sport they have all their lives. But it does help put perspective why they looked so bad.
