I actually have a lot of good Aggie friends, whom I trust. They are adamant that Texas is cancer to the conference, based on SWC and Big 12 experiences.

Granted, there are always multiple sides to the story.

But, through best for SEC lens only, what are the downside risks to the SEC with Texas in it?

What does SEC look like in 10yrs with Texas? Strife? Imbalance of power? Etc

Honest discussion, pls

I don’t like giving Texas the SEC cred for recruiting. We were able to swipe some players out of Texas bc they wanted to play in the SEC. Those players may stay to play for Texas now.

I dont want the Big or ACC grabbing Ou & Tx

In all honesty - I think Texas is interested in cooperating with others (they’re literally sacrificing their own tv network and their position in a conference where they have a lot of political power), all due to the fact that they want to make this work. Mostly because I think this is a bigger sign of things to come; particularly bigger conferences telling the NCAA to F off.

I would rather they go to Big 10 or ACC to keep those conferences somewhat competitive. The SEC being far and away the best conference will water down interest for the sport nationally as well as the value of an already watered down 12 team playoff. Especially if half of those teams are from the SEC.

It all comes down to who makes the actual decisions in the SEC (vs who makes them publicly for face) and if they buckle when Texas inevitably tries to flex.

Don't buckle and there won't be a problem. Don't become too reliant on Texas to the point where they leverage it to the detriment of every other team. Do those things and all Texas can bring is sound and fury.

We can only go by the past actions from those slimy folks in Austin. They are snitches, they are entitled, they play silly games which has caused several teams to leave the conferences they are in.

They will come into our conference the same way.

They are a 100% cancer...but don't have any of the leverage required to do what they've done in the past. SEC don't need Texas....obviously Texas needs the SEC.

tu isn’t going to kill the SEC. If anything their ego will be beat out of them and it will change their culture for the good.

I prefer the current SEC. O well. Things change. Welcome, teasips.

The Moo Moo's are desperate.

The Moo Moo's have fallen behind Texas A&M in several areas and it shows on the football field.

The Moo Moo's have come crawling on their scruffy hands and hoofs begging the SEC to bail them out. I say....leave the hole in their parachute and let'em free fall down to earth.

The Moo Moo's NEED the SEC --- the SEC...DOES...NOT...NEED...ANY....MANURE....LAYIN'....NARCISSISTIC....INCESTUOUS....DUMPS in our conference.

Take Oklahoma, but leave out the Moo Moo's.

Depends on what the schedules look like. We in pods or divisions? How are they structured and are they rotating?

There is one certainty: People will develop a hatred for Texas. And perhaps that's fine.

The media is the number one reason to keep them out. They have wanted them to be “back” for years now. If you were tired of hearing that just wait. The media will be a non stop free source of recruiting for them. With the SEC as a selling point they’ll be coming into LSU, BAMA, and Georgia’s backyards. Every bit of news will be spun in their favor. Just wait and see.

Hard to say -- In the B12 they were the head of the table with OU despite not having accomplished anything significant in over a decade.

In the SEC they'll have to earn their spot at the table. Name recognition does nothing if you aren't winning and they haven't been. Alabama, Georgia, Florida, LSU along with Oklahoma immediately jump them in the football hierarchy. Likely A&M and AU as well. Ultimately I think they're a good addition for multiple reasons (location, cultural similarities, $$) but I think both Texas and Oklahoma will be humbled at the end of the day. That's not to say that they don't have success, but the days of only having to compete against each other to win a Championship are over. Welcome to the meat grinder.

In summary, they go from being the Top dog with too much power and control to just another guy with a bunch of Universities that aren't going to put up with their bullshite and will keep them in check.

They will undermine conference equity, one program at a time starting with the weakest links. Look at how they just back stabbed their own conference and kept them in the dark as the publicly assured the Big12 members they were in it for the long haul.

Oh, pity-pity! "Sacrificing" your own tv network....why in the world did you feel the need to have it in the first place??? Huh??? And your political power....what about that????

It sure didn't matter to you Moo Moo's that you treacherously tried to dominate your state and conference at the expense of how much it would hurt your fellow schools within the state and alienate schools outside your state (note Nebraska and Missouri and Colorado).

The Moo Moo's are a CANCER not only to your own state and conference -- the whole nation is aware of your reputation and how you all think having the money you have can buy your way to success.

The past decade and a half is a testament to at least the fact that money does NOT, indeed, buy success on the field. Texas A&M has left your butts behind in the dust and THIS is the reason you want in the SEC -- your emotional wreakage can't stand the fact that you're no longer DADDY -- A&M's your daddy, now.

And you know it!

I'm sure Texas will be a terrible business partner and obnoxious

But A&M making everything about them and proclaiming that all of their circumstances are unique and couldn't possibly be understood by non-ags is their entire identity.

They'd never in a million years go "yeah they're terrible but the SEC will be able to hold them in check." Doing so would be admitting that they can't do it but others can, which Aggies would never acknowledge. Too prideful.
