Either they never did believe in paying players (when everyone else was), or they were too arrogant to pay (you should want to come here just because we're Texas, the Joneses syndrome).
While I agree with the arrogance part, TX had ALWAYS paid players just like everyone else.

quote:The only posts I see here about us "coming in to take over the conference" are from aggy and those brainwashed the past decade+ by said aggy. Anything like that was 4 coaches and 3 AD's ago, we haven't run the Big12 politics in a long time. Even the nonsense of "horns down" becoming a penalty was simply Mack Brown asking for fairness after Texas players got flagged for doing Texas Tech's "guns up" after a TD while Tech players were doing the horns down all game long with impunity. Otherwise, no true Texas fan I know really cares about that.
They are bigger brands and will probably be accepted sooner. And I haven't seen many of their fans bragging about how they are going to come in a "take over the conference." I don't have anything against Mizzou. They're kind of bland and boring but I don't have anything against them. I didn't have anything against A&M until they joined the conference and their fans stormed in like a bunch of retards bragging about how they were going to "take over the SEC". They've toned it down more in recent years since they've been put in their place, but in the beginning they were obnoxious as hell.
I know the Texas fanbase (probably OU as well) finds it quite refreshing coming into a well established conference with teams that have actual skins on the wall. This way we won't be expected to take over or carry water for anyone..simply earn respect by play on the field. No more weekly Superbowls against a bunch of angry 3*'s that didn't get a Texas/OU offer or coaches using that fact (and the fact a win saves their job) to motivate players to go all out for that one game.

quote:Nobody denies that part, but there was always a certain portion of the fanbase who lamented the fact many of our money guys didn't want to play that way and as soon as it seemed like it was becoming a bidding war even those willing dropped out before it went too far. If we were truly in the bag game like many teams were in the 70's all the way through until NIL became a thing there is no way we only play for 3 championships in 50 years winning only 2 of them...and that's in spite of some less than stellar coaching hires.

Well Texas took down the king of the sec with rather ease in the most recent matchup
Bama is still a king on this board.
If beating Bama once in a while made you king, Aggy would be more than their bitch arse knight.
Unlike Aggy, Texas comes into the SEC near the end of Saban's career instead of the buzzsaw of peak Saban in the 2010s. Then again, force ghost Saban might be chewing Red Man and Little Debbies for another 100 years.

Oklahoma slots in pretty easily IMO. Their sense of self-importance is going to take a big hit, I think, but they'll be accepted culturally.
I think deep down we're all excited about having Texas in the conference for the drama and matchups provided, but being a massive school with tens of thousands of decidedly "not SEC" types, I think there will be cultural friction and general annoyance. Especially from Alabama if Texas remains competitive for the near term.
Texas-Alabama is going to be like a Rockefeller heir building a palace next door to a guy who owns a tri-county Ford dealership

Can’t wait for you guys to go to an OU game and experience Oklahoma and their fans.

There was a great video that came out when UT/OU became a thing. Great time to revisit it! FWIW, I pretty much hate both of them but the video was pretty funny…

Is that why Kansas has butt fricked both of you over the past couple years?

No. 3 Texas 40
No. 24 Kansas 16
2022:
Texas 55
Kansas 14 (the same team that took Arkansas to 3OT, who utterly decimated Ole Miss that year

Do you know what the word "couple" means? I... I don't think you do

We talking basketball or something? We beat both Kansas schools the past couple years, you may be confusing us with OU..and that's a no no.

That would be the game when Kansas (who would go on to finish 2-10 and 1-8 in Big 12) scored 57 points in Austin on November 13, 2021.

Yes, They have forgotten.
There hasn't been a man in Texas since Tom Landry died.

Oklahoma fans will fit right in day 1. UT fans will fit in eventually. As far as Missouri, this was our first time going there that I actually got to go and I think they fit in just fine, A&M is a third world country though

When will OG SEC fans accept Texas and Oklahoma?
I have a friend that is an Oklahoma alum.
I told him that both Texas and Oklahoma will no longer be the largest fish in a small pond. They will now be in a large pond filled with several other big fish.
What happened to the elite Nebraska program could easily happen to either Oklahoma and/or Texas.

Just speaking for myself, I'd have rather accepted them in 2012 over Mizzou and TAMU.
I agree that Texas & OU would have been better additions in 2012... but none of those four teams will ever be SEC in my eyes.

It is funny. I bet this exact comment has been posted on SECrant (or some derivative of it) by five hundred different posters over the last couple of years.
The question as to whether OU will get a recruiting bump by being an SEC school seems to be a main point of contention between OU fans and the rest of SEC people. OU people think they will. SEC fans seem to think the prestige of the SEC won't rub off on the Sooners. That the SEC brand won't do anything for them.
There is an argument to be made for either side here. It will be interesting to see if OU can make a dent in SEC country recruiting. Or if maybe the SEC brand will enhance their efforts nationally.
