Josh Dobbs was the QB the last time UT won 8 or more games in back to back seasons (2015-2016). Before that, it was Erik Ainge (2006-2007). Thinking that Heupel is even remotely close to being on the Hot Seat is idiotic.

So if he doesn’t make playoffs in next 2 years he’s not on the hot seat?
That would put him on the hot seat in 2 years...you could also say...if Mark Stoops doesn't ever win another game, would he be on the hot seat? That is shifting the parameters from the initial question. You were talking about who is on the hot seat right now...and Heupel isn't right now.

Brian Kelly is not on the hot seat at all you moron. He’s about to be the only active coach to win 10 wins in back-to-back seasons in his first two years on the job. Get a clue since he’ll probably win a natty Within the next two years.

Should a Vandy coach ever be on the hot seat?
It's VANDY. You have to get really lucky to fill a football team of athletes that are also able to get into Vandy but are still good enough to get bowl eligible.
You're also competing against the Stanfords and whatnot for kids that can run a 4.4 40 and score 1400+ on their SATs. Not a big list I imagine.

2. Billy Napier
3. Shane Beamer
I don't think anyone else is really on the hot seat. Arkansas would have fired Pittman this season if the Razorback Foundation could have afforded it.
I'm a little surprised Napier's getting another year, but I think the Florida program might have been in worse shape after Mullen left than many people suspected. I think Florida officials know that, and that's why they're giving Napier a longer leash, together with recruiting.
Shane Beamer brought in Spencer Rattler and couldn't make a bowl game. If he doesn't make the postseason next year, I think he's almost certainly out.
LSU fans might be irritated by the defense this season, but they did win 9 games and might have a Heisman winner. No need to panic there.
Venables won 10 games this season at OU and will likely finish in the top 15.
Most reasonable people expected Tennessee to take a step back, but a step back was an 8-4 season. Heupel has them competitive again.
Vandy had their scoreboard held up by a chain this season. Expectations are low, at least for now.

There's a reason why he didn't finish his 4th season despite making it to 3 straight NY6 bowls his first 3 years and having won the division the year before.
He completely unravelled rapidly.

Eh, I think it would be reasonable to expect you're winning 4-5 games a year and being bowl eligible every 3-4 years. I don't care where you're coaching, a 2-22 conference record is going to put you on the hot seat. And with their schedule next year and having no scholarship QBs left on their roster, he could be staring down the barrel of another 0-8 SEC season. Northwestern, Tulane, etc ae in the same boat they are with their academics, and they still manage to field competitive football teams more frequently than Vandy

Did you pay all that money for 9 win regular seasons and no NY6 "playoff" appearances.
You make it sound like you brought in a lower level coach.
LSU's "Nattys" are getting further and further apart.
03 to 07 had 3 season between them.
07 to 2019 had 11 seasons.
Trends would show the next one would be in about 35 years

Kelly at LSU is safe as long as he only loses 3 regular season games.

Subpar years for either will have them hot.
