SEC Championship Droughts among Big 6 Members

First a little precursor. Natties are hard to win. Like really hard. We can laugh at some teams but ultimately there are 120+ teams competing for 1 title and you generally need a lot of help or luck along the way. So I don't necessarily fault some programs for lengthy droughts. Winning the SEC is a tad different. There's only 9 or 11 or 13 other teams (depending on the year) that can possibly win it. Post 1992, you really just need to win your 6/7 team division to give you a chance to be 60 minutes away from winning it. If you are a Big 6 school your odds go up exponentially compared to say a vandy. So I DO think there's merit in laughing at some schools for those lengthy droughts. Below are the longest streaks of SEC Big 6 members between winning SEC titles. NOT included is the time from 1933 to their first, if that was the case Florida would run away with this in a rout.
Auburn - 26 (1957 - 1983)
******Tennessee - 25 (1998 - Present)
LSU - 22 (1936 - 1958)
Georgia - 20 (1982-2002)
^Florida - 15 (2008 - Present)
Alabama - 10 (1999 - 2009)
*******STREAK IS ACTIVE WITH NO END IN SIGHT
^Streak is also active but less embarrassing
All big 6ers have gone a decade between titles which is no biggie. However we are in nearly uncharted territory here. Former #2 SEC program Tennessee has gone 25 years and counting without winning the SEC with no signs of stopping. We could potentially see this stretch to a record that may never be broken by another big 6er.
What is the point of all this? Well, the point is that people like to point and laugh at tennessee by saying "1998" but they seem to be referencing their natty drought, which against isn't really that big of a deal. But 25 years without even a conference title is a whole nother story. So from now on when you reference 1998 and spread 1998 joy, let's remember the true meaning of 1998. Something tells me we'll get to enjoy it for quite a while.

The thing about Tennessee fans is no matter how long that goes every summer they'll be talking about their upcoming NC.

Upvoted for phat shaming Tennessee, and also casting shade at Florida -- a team that took almost 60 years to win their first SEC title.

Winning in 2009 preserved Alabama’s streak of winning a SEC championship in every decade of the conference’s existence.

LSU has done this every decade except for the 40s (refs were corrupt back then too), and the pit of despair known as the 90s.

Unbalanced schedules were the norm until the 1980s.
We had one loss in 1972. We gave Bama their one loss. They played 7 SEC games, we played 6.

I can forgive them for a natty drought. And SEC Champion drought, I mean sure ok. It’s tough to win this league.
But not winning the East in the last 16 years?? That’s a big yikes

I'm like a Jehovah's Witness, but I go door to door spreading the good word of how mid Tennessee is as a program. Feels like '98 baby!

The "Big 6" needs to he rethought, IMO.
If a program hasn't made it to Atlanta since the SEC's last expansion, it isn't a Big 6 program.
SEC Big 6 v2.0
Alabama
Auburn
Florida
Georgia
LSU
Mizzou

ehh idk about re thought, but Mizzou does deserve more credit than they have gotten. I still forget they are in the conference sometimes, but they perform well, especially compared to the expansion teams

This is the best troll post I have ever seen on here.
Well done WG_Dawg.

Florida is closer to Georgia Tech in all time wins, and SEC titles and has fewer natties than Tech...if Florida is in the big 6 (they are not by any meaningful measure) Georgia Tech should still be in the big 6...they had more to do with making the SEC what it is today than Florida has...

Look at it like this... aggies have had what, one losing season so far?? And they've done what in the SECW..... NOTHING.

NOT included is the time from 1933 to their first, if that was the case Florida would run away with this in a rout.

What a waste of bandwidth. You fit right into SEC analysis with your arbitrary rules. First, you say that Florida has already set a Big 6 record that will never be broken. Then you say that Tennessee is about to set a Big 6 record that will never be broken. Confused?
