While I expected Pope’s offense to be quality, I’m very pleasantly surprised by the defensive effort.

UK and Auburn looked very impressive in big games.
Bama has the highest ceiling but with Sears struggling they’re not in sync. But watch out for Philon at guard, that kid looks like a lottery pick to me and has stood out on a deep roster filled with veterans on the perimeter.

Was this not a neutral site game? It wasn't played at Houston's home arena.

Isn't the rule that if it's played within a certain amount of miles of your campus (10 or 15 or something) that it counts as a home game? They may have changed that.

I love what I've seen from our squad this year. Unfortunately we play Marquette Saturday and they look unbelievably good. We won't win but I'm curious to see how close we can keep it

I think a good big man is going to wreck State but it’s still a quality State team. Utah was Game 1 of a tough 5 game stretch. They’re at SMU on Friday, then off to the desert for UNLV and then Northwestern or Butler, then Pitt comes to Starkville for the SEC/ACC challenge in two weeks. Would like to see at least 2-2 in that stretch, and it you offered me 3-1 today I’d take it.

South Carolina looks awful so far this year.

I think the Gators can hang with most teams this season. We will know a lot more after we play UNC and KY.

Lol at people putting any weight into the payday games. This is fund raising season for most of the opponents and you learn very little about a team from playing them.

Wouldn't really know, we play like 1 of those a year. We've played 4 Top 100 teams and all 5 are Top 175 teams.
I see Oklahoma has played #341, #334 and #343 with #346 on deck. So yea, you probably don't know much.

We’ve sucked since Lonnie retired. Moser had some bad luck with certain players leaving or going pro. Goal is just to make the dance, came close last year. But he’s got a decent roster now and with some luck can pull some upsets.
Key is to make the dance and get hot at end of season. Win 2 dance games you are in sweet 16 and that van change the narrative. From now to selection show its just survive and win enough.
We have a stud true freshman (Fears) and he is a gem

Because I needed to know or it was going to bug the shite out of me:
I believe it's this part that applies:
quote:
Is in the same city or within the metropolitan area of Team A, and its opponent, Team B, is from
outside the metro area.
Example: The Butler women’s basketball team has a scheduled home game against Indiana at Hinkle Fieldhouse. To attract a larger crowd, Butler agrees to play the game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, which is a few miles away from campus. It is still considered a home game for Butler.
Fertitta is in the Houston area (where UH is from) and Alabama (obviously) is from outside of Houston.
NCAA Rules on Neutral Site/Home Site Contests (p. 8 and on)
It's why our game with Gonzaga in 22-23 was a home game for the Zags even though they played down the road at Spokane Arena and not their home court.
ETA: For Bama folks, that means you winning at another team's "home" venue is worth more in the NET than at a neutral site.

You knew Butler and Williams were excellent defenders, but generally speaking, so far all of the team is defending quite well. Very pleased to see this. Pope is killing it so far.
