Ole Miss will not only pay Kiffin whatever he wants, it’s a better job than Auburn. NIL and the transfer portal is the tide that has lifted all boats, and Kiffin has a firm handle on where it’s headed in Oxford.

Lane would be a fool to leave unless a blue blood comes after him.

Or as one Power 5 coach texted me earlier Monday, “If I know it’s my last job and I’m looking for a cash grab, sure. But no one willingly walks into that thing.”
He’s not the only coach with those feelings.
The job has become toxic since fat cat Auburn boosters tried last offseason to force out coach Bryan Harsin after Year 1 — and took it to a disturbing level with reckless social media plants aimed to destroy his family.
The coaching fraternity took notice of the depth and breadth those with money and power at Auburn were willing to reach to fire a football coach. And now it’s all coming back to haunt them.
Because no matter the money and no matter the sales pitch, the Loveliest Village has a stain.
Pretty scathing

The expectations are lower there, that’s for sure

Yeah I’m sure the idea of boosters poking around Kiffin’s personal life sounds really enticing to him.

Serious question. Do you think you can win a natty at Ole Miss. (Football)
National guys I hear talking about this don’t think so. I have serious doubts about it. I just wonder what the fans actually think.

We have been within a game or 2 of the playoffs. Is it likely? no. It took Auburn the best player of the last 50 years to do it. Better opportunities than Auburn will come along soon for Lane. He doesn't have to jump at the first shiny thing. I seriously doubts he wants to jump into that shite show for 2 mil more dollars because the program is "marginally better".
Not to mention he is going into a roster with no QB and not a whole lot of playmakers. It would take him 2 years to get where he is at OM.
I just don't see the upside for Lane to take the Auburn job when Texas, Okla, UCLA, etc. will come calling in the next 3 years that are much better jobs.

Expectations are certainly lower.

The best fit for Auburn — the only fit for Auburn — is Liberty coach Hugh Freeze.

Can? Sure
Will? No
I mean even Auburn did it, and all they had to do was pay a once in a lifetime athlete $200K after lucking out with him being a thug that got kicked off the team that actually recruited him.

Weird flex from Ole Miss fans bragging about having lower expectations

This. If Lane keeps it up he will have true blue blood potential around the corner. It’s a big risk to go to AU at the moment and he’s in the position where a risk isn’t necessary.

One thing that will come out of this is Sexton is getting Lane a raise.

Every Auburn coach since Shug Jordan, who retired in 1975, has been fired or forced to resign in lieu of termination.

Once the playoff expands only 8 teams annually will be capable year in and year out so it doesn't really matter.

If better means worse fan support, worse history, worse money, worse facilities, etc. then sure.

This is twaddle that I expect from SDS.
Auburn is a better job than Ole Miss, but the gap between the two programs is closer than it was in 1998 when Tuberville left in the Pine Box though.
Ole Miss has never played in Atlanta for the SEC Championship, hasn't won the conference since integration, doesn't even have a claim to a Natty since 1962, and hasn't played for a national title in God only knows how long. Auburn's facilities, stadium, and access to recruiting hotbeds are better than Ole Miss.
Ole Miss has to split in-state talent with another P5 school, a historically competitive G5 school, and now Prime at Jackson State, all in a state that has 60% of the population of Alabama.
With that said, if I was Kiffin, I wouldn't leave Oxford for Auburn. It isn't that much of an upgrade, you have impatient, meddling boosters, you're trading out your SEC East crossover opponent of Vandy for Georgia, and an occasional 10 or 11 win season doesn't make you he Second Coming at Auburn the way it does in Oxford.
