Slightly off topic, but construction of the Waffle House in Oxford looks like it's about finished.

Lane won't go to Auburn but it is absolute stupidity to just say that Ole Miss is just an unconditionally better job. The only reason it's more favorable right now is because it's toxic on the Plains, but just like with Tennessee, once you get a leader in the AD, and everyone starts rowing the same way, it can explode

Ask State fans how they feel about the AD Auburn just hired.

National guys I hear talking about this don’t think so. I have serious doubts about it. I just wonder what the fans actually think.

Did anyone think Clemson would 15 years ago? To say nothing of doing it with Dabo Swinney? …twice?

History is a road, not a rail. Of course Ole Miss can do it.

I've posted this many times over the past few days, but it's especially true now. Lane Kiffin is currently the 11th highest paid coach in college football. He is making more than Harsin was at Auburn. If Kiffin leaves, it won't be for money
Auburn can top Lane’s salary easily and it will have to if they really want Lane. But AU booster money dwarfs Ole Miss. Rane and Harbert can and will continue to cut insane checks because it’s a drop in the bucket to them.

AU’s NIL collective just rolled out and is already up to $13 million. It is set to rival the other top collectives in the SEC despite being late to the party.

We abbreviate Saturday down south now like we’re all supposed to know they are the all knowing sports source?

It is not a better job. Auburn has actually won something of significance. Ole Miss has almost zero chance to ever win a football national championship. Auburn has more money, better facilities, better education, etc.

Better opportunities than Auburn will come along soon for Lane. He doesn't have to jump at the first shiny thing. I seriously doubts he wants to jump into that shite show for 2 mil more dollars because the program is "marginally better".

I agree with this, but to pretend Auburn isn’t better is just insanity. Kiffin likely will be offered a better job than Auburn if he can keep up any remote success at Ole Miss. But the question you have to ask yourself is, has Ole Miss really been any good under Kiffin or has he benefited from Several west teams not living up to their normal standards? LSU was historically bad last year as was Auburn last year and this year. Arkansas is still Arkansas and I’m not sure it gets much better for them and let’s face it, State shite the bed with their last hire and will be hiring a new coach after next year (not that that game against them isn’t a 50/50 most years for Ole Miss anyway). Ole Miss has also had the benefit of having Vandy as their permanent (though Vandy has made some interesting games over the years with Ole Miss). You got Kentucky this year who, I’m sorry to inform them, is vastly overrated and your out of conference schedules have been a complete joke.

Step 1: delusional fans proclaim “zomg we’re totally the better program and Kiffin will be tripping over himself to come here!!”

You have to be the biggest homer OM fan not to admit that Auburn is the better program, and will continue to be. Just due to the brand new $100m dollar football facility about to open, the $13m kitty sitting in the NIL, the atmosphere in JHS and Auburn Jesus.

The football game IS the experience at Auburn.

At Ole Miss, the football game is almost a distraction from the tailgating scene. Football isn't the attraction, it's the Grove. Or it was the 5 times I've been to OM.

I don't think that Lane is "tripping over himself" to come Auburn, but I think he'd listen. I think the obvious question is who else is calling and when.

quote:

Step 2: Sexton leaks BS to media to make Kiffin appear interested. Sexton / Kiffin leverage media frenzy for raise from Ole Miss.

Yeah, that's a likely outcome, no doubt. It's just what does Lane want? $10m and stay in some second-rate digs or $10m and $100m facility that he'll be the first occupant, $13m in NIL to use? What motivates him beyond the paycheck?

quote:

Step 3: butthurt fans of program that never had a shot at landing Kiffin - “we didn’t want him!! If we did he’d be here!!”

I'm not going to be butthurt if we didn't get him. Heck, Auburn fans are a fairly callused crew right now.
I think the scores of OM fans on twitter and on here make it clear that Auburn does have a shot, the question is can they convince Lane.

If he stays at OM, if Auburn takes a shot and misses, you won't catch me saying I didn't want him. I wanted him in 2016 when Gus was toying w/ ARK and after Gus was fired in 2020. He's a great coach and I enjoy watching him.

Not remotely, no it isn't. Auburn has much better recruiting territory, significantly more money, and isn't located in Mississippi. Any questions?

Yeah I’m sure the idea of boosters poking around Kiffin’s personal life sounds really enticing to him.

The boosters aren't poking around if he gets off his arse and creates relationships with high school coaches in the state. Lane is probably good in that regard compared to their last guy.

He’s making enough money to live on. He has a kid who is in Oxford.
If he stays where he is for 2-3 years and keeps building OM he will be in the mix for the Alabama job.
He’s coached there and I would think it’s in his blood to be the head coach.

Auburn has done it only twice in their entire history and both times were surrounded by extreme amounts of cheating.

So I don't understand what your point is honestly.
