And that blue blood will be Alabama. Thats the only program I can see him leaving Ole Miss for anytime soon.
Everybody else is delusional as f*ck. This isn't the 90s/early 2000s anymore where old money teams can buy out any coach they want.
Most universities in the SEC are making enough money to pay whatever amount is required to retain a great coach.

And this surprises absolutely no one.
It’s not even a personal knock on auburn. They are a great school with great tradition and a great fanbase. No one argues any of that.
Their problems are entirely situational, if they were located anywhere else, literally, it wouldn’t be the same issue.
But they are located where they are, their fans do have the demands they do, and the job is 100% a death sentence for your career and there is no arguing against that.

Hey look! Another OM fan trying to convince himself that Lane won't leave them. Maybe Lane will read your post too and be convinced himself.

Aubie job has lost a LOT of luster. In fact, its a bottom half SEC job at this point. Ahead of Vandy, Mizzou and maybe SC.
Good established coaches won't touch it with a 10' pole

Malzahn is at the level of coaching his skill warrants him being at: the AAC. Auburn overstepped when they hired him and his high school gimmick offense.
Chizik went back to being what he was good at: a P5 Def Coord. He sucked at Iowa State as a HC before Auburn hired him. He was always a D Coord.
Tuberville was head coach of a BCS/P5 team within a year and a half of resigning/being fired/whatever from Auburn.
Harsin will probably take some job out west, where he never should have left.

With the endowment every team gets from being a part of the SEC they can more so now than ever.

The money disparity that existed 25 years ago when tuberville left Oxford doesn’t exist anymore…. Everyone’s got money now.

My thought process lead me to believe that the endowment helps schools match more bids to retain coaches.
I promise you Ole Miss is willing to go to a bidding war over Kiff. Auburn doesn't have the buying power like they used to. Everybody has money to play with now.

It comes down to what he wants… he’ll have money either way. If he values security over the opportunity to consistently compete at the highest level, then Oxford makes sense… if he wants to actually win a conference title and real shot at a national title, then he’s gonna leave… might not mean for auburn this cycle… could be down the road.

We don't have a penny pinching AD like we did back then.

Even Tater Tot Terry eventually got back to a better job than he had ever had before Auburn hired him.

Well yeah but that ain't Auburn. Better jobs will come along soon. He has a NFL QB with 1 to 2 years left in Oxford. It will have to be a true blue blood for him to leave this year.

I mean even Auburn did it, and all they had to do was pay a once in a lifetime athlete $200K after lucking out with him being a thug that got kicked off the team that actually recruited him
Both of you referenced Cam but there were a few other studs on that team. It wasn’t a shitty team plus Cam. Several Pro’s on D as well as three Pro running backs not to mention Fairley

Such a tired narrative not based in reality.
Right now the road to Atlanta goes through Tuscaloosa. Once LSU loses to Bama this weekend, Ole Miss just has to beat Bama to get to ATL.
If he were at Auburn he’d be in the same situation- beat Bama and you’re in. He literally has Ole Miss exactly where he’d have Auburn - an Alabama victory away from the SEC Championship.

Auburn has done more on the football field since Cam left than Ole Miss has done in 60 years.

I think Auburn has a higher ceiling as a program than ole miss, but I don't think Lane makes that move. I think he's holding out for better
