NFL pension is peanuts compared to what they made while playing. Average NFL pension is under $50k a year.

Also getting a small pension would mean nothing if he owe more than what he has or is bringing in. Plenty of people get a lot money but go broke still because they spend too much and rack up too much debt.

You don't think he carried any debt on his food management company?

The article you posted stated that at one time he had as much as $70 million in leverage on a $200 million operation. Just because he sold for over $200M doesn't mean he made that in profit.

Just saying, the highest net worth cited on google as of 2023 is $100M for both he and his wife, most say $50-75M some say his net worth is much lower, $25M.

Regardless, I have not found a single estimate valuing his net worth at several hundred million.

People with as much money as the Tuohys have had tax lawyers write their wills for them. You don't have to leave all of your kids anything; adopting or not adopting likely had nothing to do with their biological children's inheritance.

You know, it is entirely possible to believe that both Oher and the Tuohys are scumbags. They are not mutually exclusive possibilities.

Oher wanted to play for the Vols. Safe to say he isn’t a scumbag.

I think the bigger issue with adoption vs. guardianship is that (in most states), you have to terminate the parental rights of the biological parents in order to adopt, and the Touhy's did not want to do that, and mess up relations between Oher and his mother.

And THIS is the likely scenario

She was, but asking even a crackhead to terminate their parental rights is likely to provoke a response.

Edit: I'm not trying to paint them as saints, just trying to put a little perspective on the adoption vs. guardianship question.

I like to read. It's actually an obsession of mine. But, I read little of the tome.

It's a message board. Brevity and pithy points are key. Grammar and style are optional but encouraged, especially if you want to write a wall of text.

A very late familial falling out has obviously occurred. That said, I doubt any court will find fault in the family's actions based on the opportunity they provided.

Again, I hope it goes to trial so that we know more real details.

Maybe go more bipartisan. The flock isn't all dialed into the whims of media induced political divide. Jesus was likely a liberal by definition of social welfare.

What parental rights does a biological parent have when the child is already 18 years old?

Pretty sure the law in TN regarding any adoption whether adult or child requires termination of parental rights of the biological parents because TN law only allows you to inherit from two parents through intestate succession. Might not be remembering this correctly.

Oher has a book coming out.

He lost a lot of money in crypto.

The Tuhoy’s did steer Oher to Ole Miss. But they didn’t steal from him.
