There are numerous accounts of Oher’s dismal educational level mid high school. With much help and his own drive and ability he certainly seems to have overcome the deficiencies.

Yeah that was whack But nothing the Tuohys had control over.

Two things...

1) This family was loaded before taking that 18 year old in.

2) Pretty sure he would be in jail if they hadn't

What is Oher's financial situation? Is he broke? If so, that explains a lot.

Outward appearance are that he's doing ok. Who's to say what the actual state of his financials are? I think he's drumming up pub for his new book that's out. Why would someone author 3 books about presumably the same topic? Is one book not enough to cover the story of a man who has overcome a rough childhood and flourished into an exceptional NFL Olineman?

Just the father is listed as being worth 75 million.
Oher supposedly earned 35 million in the NFL.
I’m thinking he’s either blown through all his money or somebody has convinced him he’s owed something since the movie earned over $300 million. The Touhy’s got $250,000 a piece.

I’m betting he’s got someone new in his life and he’s blown through some money.

Wouldn’t surprise me at all if someone has told him That he’s the poster child for white privilege.

I am skeptical about the ulterior motive of the family. The Tuoghys used to own a condo in Florida where my in laws have a place and I got scummy vibes from them. Definitely not the good Christian type that they portray in public. Very much into themselves and arrogant and not so family oriented.

What difference does it make? They family supposedly took him out of the goodness of their hearts and at some point became his conservator but may or may not have told him that was the same thing as them adopting him. The father has released a statement saying they did not adopt him because he was an adult and you can't adopt an adult which is apparently patently incorrect. Apparently they are still in control to some degree of his money and they made at least $900K plus an undisclosed amount of royalties off a movie that grossed $300 million (none of that is probably profit if Hollywood accounting is what it is rumored to be). If what Oher is claiming is remotely true and they made him think they were basically adopting him but were instead simply becoming his conservators, and lead him to believe he was like one of the family and just like their biological kids why on earth did he not get an equal share of the movie like everybody else in the "family"? What is the price owed a parent for the proper raising of a child? I would posit there is no bill due...anything the child makes is theirs and anything the parent makes is the childs if they need it and the family can afford it. Apparently $900K is not a lot of money to anyone involved, the family was wealthy before they met, he made a pile of money in the NFL. It could very well be that he found out that adoption and conservatorship is not remotely similar legally and felt he was not part of the family as he and they claim he was.

I would bet that the family, having no small amount of wealth upon meeting him, took him out of the goodness of their hearts and helped him make it to NFL. They did not adopt him because even though they took him in he had family and they probably feared their involvement in their biological children's inheritance should the parents die. Where there is a will there is a relative as they say. I would bet this is a pretty standard thing that happens. I had a similar situation. My wife's best friend and my best friend have been married since college. We all met in college and have known one another since we were kids. They have kids, we have kids. They were our kids godparents until my son became an adult and now he is our juvenile daughters godfather should something happen to us. Our friends inherited a sizeable fortune...not huge but respectable. When their daughter and our son was 9 she told him that she understood that if something were to happen to his parents he would come live with them. He knew this and agreed, they were pretty close at the time and I suspect like typical kids they liked the idea without really weighing what it would actually mean. She also told him that if it were to happen he would not be adopted because her family was rich and when her parents died her and her older sister would get everything and no one else would get anything LOL. 9 years old. Obviously she did not come up with that on her own...she overheard conversations in the family amongst adults and no doubt some of them were of the opinion that it would be unwise for them to adopt a child and dilute their biological kids inheritance. Logically it is pretty sound advice but its tough emotionally. Our son told me this...he didn't understand what it meant at all because he had not overheard such conversations in our house...we mostly talked about how the hell we were going to pay the bills LOL. When I explained what she was talking about he accepted it as simply normal. I mentioned it to his mama...I thought it was kind of funny. She went the frick off LOL. Called her friend and took her to task about it. Her friend was floored. She assured her nothing of the sort would happen and my friend, her husband, showed us their will to prove it. They said it had been discussed and they weren't comfortable with taking him if something happened and not treating him like their own child. They said that the husband's uncle had brought it up and they did consider it...but did not think it would right. I was OK either way. As long as they had a roof over their head and whoever provided it was good to them and did not steal what little inheritance they would receive if we died I was good. Logically my wife was...but emotionally she could not tolerate the thought of her baby being in such a situation and not being a full member of the family. The other family agreed with her, all but an uncle and a 9 year old LOL. Of course they could have changed the will or something but I have known them since I was 18 and outside of my wife, my father and my kids I trust them as much as anyone on the planet. I would not be shocked if that was the thinking here...and when Oher discovered it he was hurt emotionally, which is understandable. Neither side appaears to need the money, but emotions run hot and deep in families. I hope they work it out and find a path forward...at least one side has lawyered up so that ain't likely...

They own a bunch of fast food restaurants. They are not opposed to the concept of the tax payers subsidizing their production costs so they can enjoy greater wealth. I don't know if that is scummy because it is the American way but it is at least indicative of a sense of entitlement which would at least bump up against scummy....

How are they grifters?
Dude has made millions in the NFL.
They gave him the launchpad to do so.
So what if they earned a few million off the movie?

I doubt any of us really know them to make such a claim.

As it stands, his story sounds fishy at best. They certainly enabled his success. They were also part of the story, so why shouldn't they receive a share.

Hope it goes to trial to get the facts out there

The Tuohys released a statement through their attorney yesterday stating that they remitted payment to Oher for the movie and have documents to prove it. Stating an opinion is one thing but stating you have documents to prove it, which can be verified, moves the needle a good bit, but I guess soon to be determined.

Re: adoption, like you state, it may well have been that they were wary of inheritance issues then, considering his background and that they hadn’t known him that long. Seems reasonable to me.

Michael Oher was a grown arse man playing io the NFL when that movie was made.

Well, if that's the case, it was the fastest Hollywood has ever moved in the production of a movie in the history of ever. Oher played his first game in September 2009, and the movie premiered two months later.

You think Nick Saban took time off from a national championship season to film that cameo?

The more likely scenario is that you're a fricking moron.
