I think that Scott Frost proves, each game and each season, just what a great coach Tom Osborne was. The really great programs (Alabama, LSU) are self sustaining - able to win championships with numerous coaches. (The Miami teams of 30 years ago are another example). Oklahoma and Georgia are historically "good", but haven't crossed the line to "great", IMO. But Nebraska has not had even a sniff of success since Osborne left. His teams of the mid 90's could be considered some of the best ever, and I've never seen a gutsier call than the two point try against Miami in '85, when a tie would have assured him a championship. All programs go through downturns at times, but it just doesn't look like Nebraska has any hope of ever being anything but mediocre again. Sad for college football, as the old Nebraska - Oklahoma matchups were always one of the highlights of each season.

Tom Osborne was worse than Art Briles ever thought about being.

You didn't touch on the documented domestic abuses.

Yup. The only consolation is the traffic jams in Lincoln, because they named every damn street after him.

Tom Osborne was a great coach who doesn't really need descendant coaches to "prove" his greatness. Along with Devaney, Osborne was the greatest coach in Nebraska history and one of the greatest coaches in all of college football history.

This.

Give Scott Frost those advantages and let's see what he does.

Does anyone remember that Osborne lost like 8 bowl games in a row after the NCAA started testing for PED's?

Yeah he was Art Briles before Art was Art Briles.
"Football needs Lawrence more than Lawrence needs football" That was Dr. Toms reply about playing Lawrence in a bowl game. Wasn't Frost supposedly hiding in the closet when Lawrence came over and beat McEwen?

Osborne’s “greatness” in the 90’s was a direct result of Switzer leaving the arena.

Osborne’s overuse of Nebraska’s partial qualifier loophole and his overlooking of insidious behavior of his players was disgusting, all in an attempt to beat Switzer’s machine at OU. Switzer absolutely owned Osborne.

They should have never fired Solich and they severed their recruiting pipeline when they left the big 12. Frost vs. Osborne is an apples & oranges comparison.

The story, as I remember it, Frost locked himself in a dorm and Lawerance beat the hell out of the girl. No worries though, he was suspended for a week and was ready for the championship game.

Osborne benefitted from a lack of NCAA oversight of PEDs, shady in-state recruiting of "partial qualifiers", as well as 150 man rosters. Once those things were taken away they collapsed and haven't recovered.

Nebraska was ahead in steroids. Once that evened out their competitive advantage was gone.

Tom would trot out those massive lineman and linebackers, and the broadcast guys would gush "what do they feed these guys!"

Riigghhht.

Correct---and then as Nebraska's new head
coach, Frost would play a guy facing felony child
pornography charges.

Yep, but it was Texas' fault...according to Nebraska. Couldn't take responsibility for their shitty football practices and needed someone to be the devil.

Yeah well........they blame us for their "loss of identity" as a program. Apparently, playing us every year is what defined them and when that got taken away, they lost sight of who they were.

Or something....
