-- despite its 130-year history, this program didn't begin to widely use their official colors until the 1960s, although its official colors were designated way back in 1928. The official colors were chosen based on the fact that they "wouldn't fade".

-- its mascot got its name from a hated rival in order to avoid "embarrassment".

-- before its current mascot, it's previous mascot's name was "Pig".

-- its fans love to use a hand gesture that is actually considered vulgar and offensive in Russia.

Who is this sports program? Why it's the..................

If it took UT 70 years then that means it took UGA 88. It's your logic.

Everything pre-BCS is debatable. Either way, took Florida 90 years to get over the hump

We were one of 4 preflight schools for the navy.

We were successful at SATC during WWI for the Army, so the Navy tasked us with training pilots.

Hmm, a post by a shite poster just to stir up the natives. This smells like bullshite.

But even if you are not “they/them”, 1928 just never resonated with college football fans. If someone shouted out “1928!” at a college sports bar people would have just stared at them like they were schizophrenic or an SEC Rant alter. But shout out “1980!” Everyone would know exactly who you were talking about. Glad ya’ll got that gorilla off your back.

Fun fact: despite the widespread belief of this story, this was actually not the case and has been proven as false many times before

Why would anyone shout out the date that Texas chose their official school colors?
Did I miss your point?

Go ahead and debate 1980 if you would like. He said they could be debatable, not that they were completely false. And he's right. Many titles can be debated. (Look at a lot of Alabama's titles...or several)

I guess 1964 never happened, either? I am thinking Arkansas should not enter this conversation.

Nah…UGA won the majority of polls in 42, had the heisman winner, and won the Rose Bowl the defacto NC game prior to the 50’s. They were also the only undefeated untied team in 1946….a feat the university of Florida has yet to accomplish.

They could also reasonably claim 1927

It took Florida 58 years to win a SEC title LOL. They had been playing football at UF for 85 years before winning a conference title of any kind, let alone a national title. Georgia Tech, Tulane, Sewanee, Vanderbilt...all won multiple SEC and predecessor conference titles before UF did. UF is 28th all time in wins and 7th in the current SEC and will be 9th when UT and Oklahoma join the SEC. For comparison GT is 29th all time and has won exactly as many conference titles as Florida in the same conferences. Florida and GT are much more closely aligned than Florida and anyone at the top of the SEC.
