nothing to see here

It doesn't matter how WE see it, it matters how recruits see it, and their families. I'm sure it won't matter to some but I'm just as sure it will to others... no matter the intent. An unforced error for sure.

I’m thinking there has to be a range here

Players I loved - 4 or 5
Players I liked - 10 or 12
Payers I tolerated - 634 to 786
Players I hated - 62 to 78

Saban didn't say or imply that he doesn't love and care about his other players. Anyone taking his words out of context and spinning them to mean that seems like a pretty hateful and pathetic person, imo.

SEGMENTS FROM SABAN'S PRESSER

"We’ve got several injuries in the game. Raekwon (Davis), D.J. Dale and Henry Ruggs will all be questionable for this game this week.

"Of course, everybody’s talked a lot about the Tua situation. And look, we lost a great leader, a great player on our team and we’re all hurting because of it. Just like any time you lose somebody in your family, for whatever reasons, everybody in the family is hurting. And this is all about people and this is all about the person. We’re pleased that the surgery went successfully today and they expect him to have a full recovery.

"I’ve talked to Tua. I feel bad. I’m hurting. So I called him on Saturday night to cheer him up and he cheered me up. I called him last night because I’d been sitting in that room for 10 hours yesterday watching film. I called him to cheer him up and he cheers me up. This is a guy that has great spirit. He’s very positive about just about everything he does and the effect that he has on other people.

"I think he’s been a great ambassador for college football in terms of the class that he shows and the way he goes about what he does and how he affects other people. I don’t think there’s any way that any of us can say we won’t miss that spirit that he has. The first thing he says to me last night (Sunday) when I tell him, ‘Good luck with your surgery.’ He said, ‘Well, I just can’t wait to get back and see the game on Saturday.’

ON WHAT IT WAS LIKE COACHING TUA TAGOVAILOA

"Look, you want to be fair and honest with all players and you’d like to say you treat them all the same, but that’s probably not the case. And I can think back to four or five players and actually can say I really love those guys as people, the way they did things, the contribution that they made, how they affected other people, and Tua would be one of those four or five guys. I mean, he’s just a fabulous person, a really good player, really cares about his team and his teammates and haven’t had one issue or problem with him since he’s been here. He’s worked hard. He’s supported his teammates when he didn’t play. He supported Jalen (Hurts) when he didn’t play. Jalen supported him when he didn’t play. So, I can’t say enough good things about him and his family and the impact that they’ve had on the program."

ON WHERE TO TURN NOW FOR LEADERSHIP

"Well, I think we have other good leaders on our team. I felt horrible and a great loss and a great concern for Dylan (Moses) when he got hurt, as with any player. I mean, I don’t love these guys relative to how good of players they are. They’re all part of our team. You hate to see any of them get hurt, you hate to see any of them make bad choices and decisions that can affect their future or anything that happens to them that can affect their future. And certainly injuries are a part of the game, but it’s also part of life. Things always don’t go exactly like you want and you like, and you have to be able to play the hand that’s dealt you, overcome adversity at times and you can actually become stronger because of it. So, we have other guys on our team that are good leaders, and I think everybody has to step up and fill the role."

Those who are guilty will downvote this.

Probably just being honest. Do you think someone like him truly loves every athlete that plays for him? Most college athletes are a thug POS with an attitude, I wouldn’t like them either

I understand

Just let it all out, all of it

So tell us, how many times did your GF in College get spotted leaving some FB or MBB player's Apt

I can understand your anger at being "cucked" so often and so many times at such a young age, an age where you didn't fully understand what was happening to you

But we're here for you now, so feel free to let it all out, this is the SEC Rant, you're in a safe space now

Wow!

What an insult to the thousands of players that he has coached over the years!

It is ok to have “favorites” but showing the others that can create a devide!

Keep it up Satan everyone that isn’t a Gump can’t wait for your demise!

Ro would be one of the last LSU players who Nicky loved. At booster club meetings in Ro's first 2 seasons, without mentioning his name, Saban would often claim, when a QB controversy came up, that "one would practice hiss arse off, live in the film room, was respected by his teammates. The other loved the Gold Club & bars around Tiger Land, & loafed through practice."

Ingram is definitely among those four or five players. Maybe Hightower as well.

No problem. I doubt that that as many as 4 players loved Saban.

Did Gary make the list of former players that he loves? Or is that a one way relationship?

I love this being taken out of context.

If you listen to the full clip, it's pretty clear he's referring to the total person and all the contributions they make to everyone around them.

Saban is old school. His old man set a very high bar with him in terms of expectations. Not many kids (especially these days) are going to clear that bar.

Far from scaring off recruits, I think it reminds them of what is expected of them. It's not like Saban is hurting for kids willing to subject themselves to his demanding process. There are plenty of other coaches you can play for if you want to practice your dance moves.

Yep. Of course the trolls and the too young to understand life don't get it but you nailed it nicely.

Any coach who says they loved every player on their team equally is an utter liar. Just like where you work, you have lots of people you like, many you really, really care for, but only a few every really move you to care for them like they were your own kids, parents, or siblings.

I'm sure the players I liked category is much larger, but every single coach has a breakdown a lot like this.

Yeah Hightower is definitely up there.

Dante Hightower is basically brainwashed to think only of the process after all his years with Saban and Belichick.

Ingram really is like family to Saban going back to coaching his dad and getting to know his mom to try to keep his dad out of trouble back in the day.

Ingram is on the sidelines for as many Alabama games as possible and there aren't many guys who make even single appearances. Saban plays in the SEC ACC golf classic with Ingram as his partner almost every year.

I mentioned Rashad Johnson earlier. He actually joined the coaching staff in an off field role last year.

“Rashad is a guy that I’ve always had a tremendous amount of respect for,” Saban said. “He was a great player here, a guy that was a walk-on that earned a scholarship and became a star player because he’s smart, really understands the game. He had a great pro career. Certainly has the right stuff as a person and great character."

“He had talked to me earlier in the year about the possibility of being a coach or having a role in the program. We had an opening right before the season started. He was already with the (New York) Giants as an intern just for camp, so he completed that until the 15th and then came and joined us. I just think he’s a really, really good young guy to be trying to develop as a coach.

He is a smug bitch. I cannot stand him and Danny Kanell on the first team. Ugh. I turn it off in the first five minutes every morning. A couple of PC bros. The absolute worst. They both definitely voted for Hillary.

Of course this is being taken out of context in this thread, but it could obviously also be misconstrued by recruits.
That is very unlike Saban, as he is very calculated in that everything he says is directed to improve recruiting or motivate his team. He doesn’t make many mistakes, but I think he did here.
Probably an indication of how truly upset he is.
