DeBoer was a panic hire.

The DeBoer choice and agreement in principle was a done deal before the title game. If you actually think there was a national title game, Saban decided to retire, and a coaching search and then a deal with DeBoer was all done in 4 days, you are an extremely naive maroon

Because never before in the history of football have coaches consulted with other coaches to learn their systems and become better coaches.

Please name one "consulting" coach that had an office at the university he was "consulting" for.

I'll hang up and listen.

It would be absolutely stupid not to take advantage of keeping Saban around as much as he is willing, if only just for showing up on the practice field occasionally when a group of elite recruits happen to be there.

OR to have him make the introductions to the NFL scouts
OR to have him introduce the staff to the high school HC's that pump out top talent
OR pick his brain on talent evaluations and measurables to stock the roster
OR to have him introduce the staff to Bama's heavy donors
OR have him make appearances with the main money men who fill the coffers & keep the facilities top-notch

Coach Saban's value to Alabama sports is immeasurable. Other fan bases will never understand.

Other fans, especially the jilted LSU fan that never got over his departure and subsequent success at hated Alabama ,wanted Saban to depart from Alabama post haste. None of this has worked out the way they wanted it to.

If Saban is consulting and actively allowed to participate then there really isnt an issue. Honestly trying to hire him as Quality control or whatever those analyst positions are, would be smart

if it is what Spurrier does then I think it would be a hinderance.
Agree 100%.

Although, considering what the Gator's have put on the field recently, some schooling from Steve Spurrier would most definitely get better results.

Do you think Coach Saban having an office at the University isn't justified?

Now if you could only figure out how to get that 55-17 score off the tiger stadium scoreboard.

Kalen DeBoer's staff is consulting with Nick Saban to adapt Saban's defense under the new staff

This will go well.

Only problem with that is no one will give him credit if he’s successful. Ppl will say it’s Saban

If it gets me to titles and keeps me at 10+ million in comp. Credit Nick Saban...Lou Saban....anyone named Nick or Lou. Don't care

So embarrassing. Talk about following up a legend in the most buffoonish way possible. I’d be extremely concerned about this staff if I were a Bama fan

Just wait til Bama loses its first game and all hell will break loose Ol Nick will quit answering his phone

You can think that if you want, but outside Kiffin and Sark, he hired medium to bad OCs. Bama mostly won with a lot of talent, not great coaching and a great scheme. When Saban couldn't horde NFL talent anymore, he knew it was time to get out.

Saban's influence on the defense won't move the needle. A good OC with good talent can beat a Saban defense these days.

I coached for 20 years and had a personal rule: I would not take a job without first having a conversation with the outgoing coach. No one knows the situation you're getting into better than that person.

If I were Wommack, I would want to meet with Saban to get his thoughts on the returning personnel and some of the base defensive concepts and terminology that they have been running and how it all compares to what I want to do. That might help speed things up in the spring. I doubt it will make the difference in a W somewhere in 2024, but at that level of competition you need every millimeter of advantage you can get in case it does. I wouldn't go public or make a big about it, though.

At the end of the day, nothing Saban tells him is likely to make a significant difference. 90% of winning in CFB is about recruiting and leadership. If DeBoer can recruit as well as Saban did and keep the program on the road, he will win. The X's and O's are secondary and making good calls at the most important moments of the game (by luck or instinct) are more important than the A-Z scheme.

So Bama's new coaches are asking Saban how to coach?

That's a bad look isn't it?

Going 6-7 and having to replace your entire coaching staff in year 2 is a bad look.

Frankly, so is 4th and 31.

No coach in my lifetime recruited as well as Saban did at Alabama so I don’t think that’s going to happen

I'll have to say that's one of the most asinine conclusions a non-intellectually challenged individual could conjure up.
