Thankfully we saved enough of his DNA that we can grow a new Saban in the lab. Hell, we should clone a whole staff of Sabans.

He is 70 yo. He will go down as the best college coach in hx. There is nothing for him to prove. He needs to go out on top and start enjoying what little time he has left.

I don't think even most Alabama fans expect whoever they hire to be as dominant as Saban has been

Agreed, but despite this, the hyperbole from other fan bases is off the charts.

If Saban is retiring, I would also like to officially enter my name into the running, on the hopes that some school will pay me $100m with a $20m buyout (and maybe a personal jet) before they realize that I have no idea what the frick I'm doing.

He has to go Texas first.

And he’s only going to Texas after he coaches the Browns and Colts.

In all seriousness I’m not. It’s not like Alabama never won before Saban. Even Shula and Dubose had some really good years. I do expect the level of consistency to drop to some degree. It almost has to by law of averages.

Not with the team he has coming back next year

When has Saban not had an elite group of players coming back? He'll coach until he's in a wheelchair if he's waiting for a rebuilding year

As I recall he said as recently as earlier this season that he's planning on another 10 years

That's nice. I'm sure he meant it at the time.

I seriously doubt it but I am just fine with some "Saban is going to retire either this season or maybe next" rumors getting traction a couple weeks until signing day.

That is a rather interesting take. For shits and giggles, lets say Saban retires and Bama hires a Les Miles or Ed Orgeron clone (I have no idea who currently fits that profile, but lets pretend this person exists). Does this coach win the CFP within four years? I wouldn't think so simply because of the drastic change in coaching style/personality.

Coach Saban retired after the 2012 NC season. Y'all were correct when you said he would not stay long.

However Alabama cloned him, and it the clone that has been in charge for the last 9-10 years.

We have many clones...........

A pedestrian effort. You have the original Saban. Why even risk diluting the prime source material ? Mount his head to a robot and keep on trucking.

Nick Saban is never going to retire

With our luck, Saban will end up being a real life Dorian Gray. Just to be sure, we should probably check his house thoroughly for his portrait.

I've actually heard him speak on this before.

(It was in response to a question about the rumors that Kirby was especially bad about this after he left.)

He is obviously aware that other programs use this against him, and flips it back pretty well when he's talking to recruits. Age will certainly get him eventually, but in the meantime, that man literally has a plan for everything.

Dropping from winning a natty every other year to every 4 or 5 years is dropping back, technically.

These last few years at Bama have been the mountaintop. It's probably not going to get any better. Doesn't mean it's going to be terrible all the time in the future, but it's been an unprecedented run. Just enjoy it.
