Regular season or post season?

I want to get a tally on what the SECr thinks. Obviously LSU and Auburn fans will be biased at the moment, so I'll only count votes from other fanbases

Lucky we’ve had one of each the last two seasons

To anyone with a thinking brain it's the regular season champs. Tournaments are flukes most of the time.

Regular season. Don't care if you count my vote or not.

Tournament. They get the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. That being said, either one is a darn good accomplishment, and in pretty much every single year, the SEC regular season winner will get a bid to the tournament.

I'll be honest I generally can't remember either one after 3-4 years compared to remembering if a SEC team went on a run to the Elite 8 or something.

But both are important because they go on a banner, IMHO. Regular season is probably a more impressive overall feat, though. I think if you are looking back at something from a season past you'd rather win the regular season than the tournament (if you had to pick).

I'm not biased one bit. It was Auburn last year and LSU this year. Same as baseball. The regular season champion plays more games over a longer period of time against more teams. The tournament championship is impressive no matter what team it is, but a team can get hot over 3 or 4 days, especially a really good team like Auburn that can shoot the 3 so well.

Because it feeds into the craziness of March Madness. If there wasn't an automatic birth attached to the tourney, what would the teams at the bottom have to play for?

Obviously the regular season. Shouldn't even be much debate about it. An 18 game season holds much more weight than a 3-day tournament.

Like I said. Common sense.

Regular season has more prestige but getting a tourney championship sure makes up for the frustrating season prior. It also is a good sign our team has found a groove going into NCAA’s.

Basketball is a postseason sport. Winning the regular season title is more impressive, but what you do in March is what matters.

Otherwise Alabama's basketball program would be held in much higher regard historically.

This is one of the best answers I've seen on this subject. Very well said.

The regular season championship. The SEC isn't a one bid league, in which case the tournament would mean more.

Regular season is a bigger personal accomplishment, but the tournament champions seem to be more memorable/celebrated by others. And ultimately, don't we all just want validation from other fanbases?

Yep and it makes sense why they do tourney champs for auto bids due to the non P5 leagues. If a mid major gets a late season injury or a team gets hot at the end of the season the ncaa wants to capitalize on that to maximize drama for the tourney with upsets.

The real tourney is ultimately what matters. No one cares about either unless you advance in the real tournament

Basketball has always been a tournament based sport in college. It is March (and April) that matter.

Now one must keep in mind I grew up in ACC country and went to an ACC grad school so there is no such thing as an official regular season conference champion. No banner unless it states unofficially. I tend to defer to the ACC in basketball matters and the SEC in football matters.

Regular season, but the tournament and all the excitement that comes with it for those few days make it really enjoyable as well.

Time usually prepares Athletes to perform on a certain level.

Neither teams did horrible in doing so.

LSU did Amazing!

Auburn "built" on it as the season went on, and capitalized on it at the end.

I like both systems as far as Athletics are concerned.

This is a "full" season with really great Athletes. It should be expected, but not "given". Congrats to LSU!
