The selection committee seems to also prefer the regular season championship considering LSU is a 3 seed and Auburn is a 5 seed.
What if Tenn or UK won the tourney? The point is that the committee doesn’t care about either.

But both are important because they go on a banner, IMHO. Regular season is probably a more impressive overall feat, though. I think if you are looking back at something from a season past you'd rather win the regular season than the tournament (if you had to pick).
For brackets, I think the SEC show nailed it last night. If you play on a Sunday in the tournament final, it does not count for much.
Still, two years in a row now, getting in, is something I barely remember.

Very challenging to win both. Tournament is a lot of games (depending on seeding) over a short number of days, but it gives a team on the outside a chance to sneak in the big tournament if they win) Season is consistency over a long period of time.
Tournament is pretty hard to win in baseball especially. A lot of games, not many days off, have to rely on numerous arms rather than possibly two really good starters to potentially set a team up to win a weekend series.

That's a very good point as well. I was simply comparing the two current champions to try to make a distinction between the two since this particular poster seems to be using all kinds of ridiculous examples.

I mean that's not true though is it?
nova won the big east and got a 6 seed.
They finished the regular season and tourney as Big East Champs above Marquette who got knocked out in the semi finals and they're still seeded higher.
I don't think the conference tourneys mean much for the big ones besides maybe a team that was a bubble team getting in if they win it all.

The Tournament Champ is the Conference Champ.
They get the auto bid.
Regular season champs weren't even recognized for a long time.

Both are nice and impressive but I think the regular season champ is better. A&M won the sec tourney at least once maybe twice but never a regular season title. However, you can miss the entire tournament by winning just the regular title in a weak conference (Washington a few years ago) . Also winning the national championship is the goal so depends on your expectations I guess

the one not involving the FBI....
uh-oh.... looks like neither one this year.

Look at Washington this year. Regular season champs and they're pitiful. Got blown out by the 6 seed in conference tournament.
Look at our own league. The team that finished 4th in the regular season didn't get a bid. 4th. That tells how much respect the conference regular season gets. The OOC season is much more important

regular season.
all you have to do in the tournament is beat a few teams that are already focused on the NCAAs

I think it's pretty clear actually. Last year, it was the regular season champs that matter the most, this year its the SEC Tournament Champs that matter most.

Regular season or post season?
Depends on the sport. Football should be the winner of the SECCG. But then again, if an SEC team goes undefeated and loses in the SECCG, then they would make the playoffs over a 3-loss winner of the SECCG.
Baseball it's definitely the regular season now, because teams are holding back players in the SEC tournament to rest for the regionals. But then again, the uneven schedules can allow top team to avoid the top teams in th other division, giving them an advantage in the final record.
Basketball, I think it's the regular season. But like baseball, the uneven scheduling can allow a team to avoid playing other good teams twice. Still, since you have to play every team at least once, then I think the regular season is better.
Track has to be the tournament (meet) at the end of the season. I don't like how team titles are really just individual finishes added up. It doesn't feel like a "team sport".
At least in tennis you have to choose who plays against whom, so there's more of a team aspect to it. I don't know if the regular season in tennis is more or less important than a tournament title.
In golf it's a complete team score, so individual titles don't really matter for team championships. Like track, it all comes down to a conference tournament at the end.

Always should be tournament.

I like how 90% of the replies are LSU fans despite what the OP says

The fact that there was no SECT for like 25 years should tell you all you need to know.

They are both great, but regular season champs are the SEC champs and is the more difficult of the 2 to win.

The regular season championship is a more impressive feat in both baseball and basketball. While the previous poster who said that the basketball tournament is a good indicator that a team is coming together, the tournaments can be very fluky. With as much parity as there is in the SEC, the baseball tournament is a fairly brutal slog for the teams in the finals. Unless you’re a bubble team or worse, most baseball teams are probably better off exiting in the semifinals to rest up before Regionals.

It's more like 25%. A quick count shows about 15 out of 57 including this post. You really can't seem to get out of your own way with this topic.
