Who had a better team and deserves the title of SEC Champions in 2008. Tennessee who won the SEC regular season championship, or Georgia who sucked arse and got very very lucky in the tournament that year

Georgia, because they got the job done when it mattered more

It’s hard to argue against either one although tournament titles are the most natural achievement for athletes that went through all star games, state tournaments, etc. Regular season championships are regular season championships. Nothing more.
Winning both was nice for Auburn but given Auburn’s program is solidifying (and no longer limping into the tournament with 8 scholarship players with a regular season championship in hand,) I think our goals have matured as well. There was no way we were going to be able to compete for a tournament title last year. Bruce even suggested that if we lose in the tournament, he hoped it would be early because we were running out of bodies and running on fumes before the NCAAt.

conference title > conference tournament title
The ACC is an exception since their tourney champ is the conference champ.
And there's no such thing as "regular season" champ. The hardware doesn't lie.

Both are great accomplishments. Tourney champs get an auto-bid. But the regular season championship is more impressive to me because you had to earn it the whole season in SEC play.

Regular seasons are very important. Just ask the 38-1 Kentucky team from a few years ago

Playing 18 games against every single team in the conference and being the best team in that 18 game stretch is better and more valuable than playing the best for a 4 game stretch

Didn't they win the conference tournament as well? How is this helping your point?

It shows that the regular season is mostly irrelevant. Sports like basketball, baseball, wrestling, etc are tournament sports. The only use for the regular season is to determine who makes the tournaments and how the matchups are set.
Outside of that, regular season is meaningless.
So congrats to LSU on winning the race to be #1 most irrelevant. Very impressive, congrats

People only remember the tournament champ, especially in the SEC. Everybody just assumes Kentucky won the regular season.
Congrats, Auburn, on being the true conference champion.

No it doesn't. Not even a little bit. You said...

That same team also won the conference tournament as well. So, you would have to be saying that winning either championship is irrelevant in this case. Not only that, using your statement in this case that would mean all of the other conference championships (both regular season and tournament) are all irrelevant if you don't win the national championship.
In your own thread earlier you used the 2018 regular season championship to claim back to back champions. You're just using whatever you can to try to make Auburn the true champion in each year.
The selection committee seems to also prefer the regular season championship considering LSU is a 3 seed and Auburn is a 5 seed. I think maybe you should take a break from this topic. You're all over the place.

In conferences that only get one bid it's their tournament.

this year, its post season as the regular season will be "vacated"
vacate (va'kat?, va-kat')?
v. To cease to occupy or hold; give up.
v. To empty of occupants or incumbents.
v. Law To make void or annul; countermand: a death sentence.

I’d prefer the regular season title because it’s more impressive because you have to sustain play for months instead of over a few days
However the tournament is impressive in a different way. It challenges your team in a way the regular season does not, rewarding depth with the multiple games in back to back days format. Each team knows their identity after playing all year and is gearing up for March Madness. Some are playing to get off the bubble and some are playing for seeding.
So I think the regular season title is more impressive, but the SECT is memorable in its own right.

That settles that

Regular season. Tourney champs are usually the hot teams that win a few games. 18 games to 3

Regular season is a better indicator of team success than four tournament wins. A fluke tournament champion is more likely than a regular season champion.
