In existence that would want Gus Malzahn as its HC? I’m here for the laughs because I already know the answer. Entertain me SECR!

I've heard the Iraqi Football Car Bombers have strong interest.

Want him or would he be an upgrade?
The answer to both is yes. Probably more yesses to the 2nd one than the 1st one.

but it has happened so many times that it isn't even a joke that he wins just enough of the required games to keep his job, but not enough to win titles.
I'm sure it's frustrating as hell to a lot (most?) Auburn fans

Volnation appeared to have some takers, simply for his record against Bama.

I am sure Vandy would take him

Maybe an SEC team or two?
I'm sure there are a shite ton of mid major type schools that would love his shtick.

Gus isn't a bad coach but he isn't a great coach. He has more wins vs The King than the others. Auburn is able to recruit talented players (always has) and 9-3/8-4 is about right with Gus then comes a big year. Coach Shug Jordan was about the same. Hard to believe the barn complex went all in on his current contract after beating Bama in 2017. Hell just pay him 7 million plus more incentives but lower the buyout. Keep both sides with skin in the game.

Come on
I hate Gus as much as the next guy.
But Gus would probably be a good hire over the long term for every program in the SEC except for Bama, Auburn, UF, LSU, UGA and maybe Ole Miss.
I think Gus would greatly stabilize a school like USCe or UT, for example. UT may not want him indefinitely, but it'd help lay the groundwork for moving up another notch. He more or less successfully runs a large program that shares a state with UA and which always has to battle the negative attention that big programs attract. And he never loses the team or allows seasons to crater. That's a very valuable resume for about 80% of football programs.

Somebody on the rant said it best the other day… "he is the best OK coach in college football"

Gus, Nick, Kirby, and Jimbo's buyout amounts from Al.com
LINK
Malzahn’s buyout, as of Dec. 1, is set at $21,450,000 -- which is 75 percent of the money remaining on his contract as of the end of the season. Malzahn has the 12th-largest buyout in the nation and fifth-largest in the SEC; his buyout last season was the fifth-largest among FBS head coaches and third in the SEC.
Fisher’s $53,125,000 buyout is the largest in the SEC and the country, while Saban’s $36.8 million is second in the conference and fourth nationally. Orgeron’s buyout is $23.85 million, which is third in the SEC and eighth nationally. Kentucky’s Mark Stoops, whose buyout is $23.75 million, is fourth in the league and 10th among FBS coaches.

I’m sure a high school in Arkansas that’s accustomed to running a high school offense would take him!

quote:Gus has Auburn by the short hairs with that contract. He won't negotiate down in compensation, and why should he? Auburn's going to pay him through the expiration or pay him to leave either way Gus gets paid.

Turn him into George Costanza @ Play Now. Make his existence there so miserable he finds someplace else to go and they negotiate down his buyout.

Appearances from an outsider's perspective is that no one holds Gus accountable and there are no consequences for the questionable product the puts on the field a few times every year. I'm sure that's due to the fact that Gus holds all the cards ($$) with that buyout.
