All SEC teams have outstanding barbeque joints within their state.
However, the worst BBQ I ever had was on the South side of Chicago.
Crock pot nasty
More like pot roast with tomato sauce and water poured on top.
So gross.

I was on a return trip from S. Carolina and had a one night stay in Jacksonville.
I still wanted barbecue so I went to a place called The Bearded Pig and I gotta say it was pretty decent. Not sure how that compares to other places in the state, but I liked what I had. I remember having ribs and pulled pork.
Also, no disrespect but Jacksonville is kind of a shithole. I asked a friend who used to live there where the nice part is and he just laughed. We stayed downtown so maybe it gets better on the outskirts.
I say all that because the barbecue was the highlight of my short stay.

Only a Missouri fan would add a picture of Barry the fairy to use as evidence of good bbq.
He prefers a different kind of meat on the bone. Where's Big Mike the first tranny lady?

Imagine thinking pork is better than beef.
Best BBQ I ever had was in KC. Texas is second. I’ve lived in TN now for 6 years and the BBQ here is terrible. All the food here is terrible. It is the one thing I miss about TX.

Best brisket I ever had was at a trailer John Mueller had in Austin. It wasn't far from South Congress as I recall. He was mess personally, but was perhaps the best that ever did it.
We still have the edge in pork here in Memphis.

This post is why the SEC wants to expand into North Carolina

Jacksonville is the largest city in America according to square footage. You can find everything there. Bearded pig is as good as it gets for North Florida and better than anything south of Orlando.

I lived in Mississippi near Mobile while my ship was being built in the Navy. I tried BBQ all over Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana and never found anything that came close to the elite bbq's in South Carolina
And I lived in the Carolinas for a few years and ate barbecue all over, and while it was good, I never found any place that I thought came anywhere near the best places back home.
If you were trying barbecue near the coast then that was your problem. The best barbecue in Alabama is generally to be found north of Montgomery.

Arkansas is probably ranked low from a quantity standpoint, but we have a handful that I’d put up against anyone.

I'm from SC and mustard based is not my favorite... in fact I prefer vinegar based; I also love red and hot red sauces (like at Home Team).

Almost all barbecue is good; some is just better than others.
Kansas City and St. Louis barbecue don't count. Neither is very good.
If you want real barbecue in Missouri then you have to go to the Bootheel and I am not talking about the trash from Cape Girardeau County with pimento cheese on it. The good stuff in the Bootheel is similar to that in Western Kentucky and Western Tennessee.
Texas barbecue is roast beef. Real barbecue is always pork or, in the case of Western Kentucky, mutton. Or, in the case of the Bootheel, raccoon.

And your low country cuisine is rather lame as well.
Them’s fighting words. The only peer for Lowcountry cuisine is N’Awlins. But let me guess: you did the tourist thing in Charleston and ate at a downtown Charleston restaurant. You actually ate an interpretation of what a foodie considers Lowcountry cuisine.
I actually just threw in the dig about low country just to get a rise. I got no hate for it.
I’ve spent half my life in SC on the banks of Lake Marion. Have vivid memories of cleaning up damage with my family after hurricane Hugo at our house in Santee Cooper Country Club after that. My first and now current home is Kentucky, but I reserve every right to rank barbecue and call out the current locals for their homerism.
I stay away from Charleston like the plague.
