I lived in Mississippi near Mobile while my ship was being built in the Navy. I tried BBQ all over Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana and never found anything that came close to the elite bbq's in South Carolina

Fun fact, Chic-fil-a sauce is Alabama white sauce and KC style BBQ sauce mixed together...

Jesus…I don’t mind the white sauce and don’t pretend that Alabama doesn’t have other barbecue. But it is what Alabama is known for and no one gives a shite about any other barbecue from Alabama in these discussions. It’s not that deep.

I don’t care what you call me…but you still have less desirable barbecue than Memphis, Texas, and KC.

And your low country cuisine is rather lame as well.

KC is ketchup and brown sugar. Using that combo means you have no clue on how to season or marinate. Texas has great brisket but real BBQ is a pork and you would most likely get shot eating in Memphis. Kentucky fans think a microwave banquet bbq dinner is real bbq

Well, the Carolina's might be elitist, but at least we ain't defeatist.

"Hey, let's go to KY for some great BBQ!" said no one, ever.

Kentucky BBQ is bottom tier.

So what’s your point? Did anyone argue Kentucky was better?

You all just can’t handle being ranked 3rd or 4th in these discussions and never fail to get bent out of shape over it. This same thread pops up once or twice a year and every single time, a bunch of Carolina posters vomit all over the place when they are considered second tier-ish.

Plus the greatest barbecue in the country is made here, in the smoker in my backyard. The rest of you are squabbling over second place.

Someone from a state that doesn't do BBQ REALLY can't speak intelligently on the subject...

And the Carolinas (Both North and South) are #1. End of Story. You can't be better than the folks that invented it. It's the original and purest form. You might not like the flavor taste of it (because such things are personal preference). But it's still the king.

Sorry, not sorry.

I’m a BBQ fan who’s been to every SEC state.

1. Missouri
2. Texas
3. Memphis, but not TN
4. South Carolina
5. Alabama
6. Georgia

Kentucky does do barbeque. It’s rather unique and mainly confined to the Western part of the state. You’ll never go there and try it. No one cares if you do. We’re self aware enough to know it’s place…which is not on these kinds of lists.

Carolina has okay barbecue. But it’s not the “end of the story” best. A lot of people don’t like pepper vinegar or a heavy dose of mustard with their pork. Sorry, not sorry.

You know what you’re the best at? The Carolina Squat truck. Congrats. Best ever.

Too much good stuff in the SEC, Missouri might be middle of the pack at best.

KC stuff pretty overrated.

I have no issues with what meats are used all that matters is you have smoke and it tastes good.

1. Georgia
2. Texas
3. Alabama
4. South Carolina
5. Tennessee

Other than that every state but Florida and Louisiana have something good but not top tier.
