One thing SEC fans might not know about those old SWC days is that from 1937 on until Arkansas left to enter the SEC...

Texas played Oklahoma And Arkansas back to back. There were a handful of exceptions from 1969-1980 where they didn't play after Oklahoma.

I think this diminished the rivalry to some degree from the Texas perspective. I never understood why Texas was willing to play those games back to back like that as it was hard to generate momentum for the game with just one weeks worth of hype.

The hype for the '69 and '70 games where ARK/TEX was at the end of the season was huge.

Texas fans will always pretend it’s OU but there’s only one school they want to go 0-12 every year and it’s not the one rocking crimson and cream.

I always though OU, but how they’ve acted since we’ve ditched them makes me think otherwise. I’ve seen them actively root for OU several times. They even lit their tower for OU. They definitely lost the old animosity they once have.

I want to beat OU more than A&M. They are a peer and worthy opponent.

I want to not lose to A&M more than OU. You are our little brother, we're supposed to beat you.

When A&M played OU in the cotton bowl there wasn’t a single burnt orange dildo rooting for A&M.

For the most part, Arkansas fans are stoked that they joined and A&M fans are not. Take from that what you will.

And? Nothing I said is incongruent with that. Keeping you under the boot in the state of Texas is important. Oklahoma is Oklahoma, they're going to get theirs. Hence most of us hoped for an Aggie loss.

Texas A&M remaining at the back of the bus is a good thing for Texas, especially as we're going through a nightmare decade.

Lucky for us, you guys can't get out of your own way. Enjoy watching that window close boys, you're going to be put back in your place.

If forced to pick an opponent to play a single-game season for the rest of eternity...

Texas would say Oklahoma.
Oklahoma would say Texas.
Arkansas would say Texas.
Texas A&M would say Texas.

Which is why this move is so exciting for Texas fans.

Most, not all, Texas grads will say Oklahoma.

If I got to pick 1 game a year, the answer is always Oklahoma for me.. That answer was true before A&M left and it is true today.

We like to talk more shite about A&M because many of us have good friends on that side. It’s just what we do.

The answer is Oklahoma, and it isn’t even close.

A&M-Texas, the games never meant very much on a national scale. We never faced A&M with serious National Title implications on the line for both teams. That is probably the biggest reason the rivalry has not ever been more than inter-family or workplace banter.

OU was, and is, a true rivalry but there was a limitation from it not being a conference game. Plenty of hate to go around, most hate from Texas was directed more towards Switzer than to OU itself. But no mistake, the night before Texas/OU could get a bit rough in Dallas.

Arkansas… That was a different beast… That could get dangerous… GOD I miss it. I’m greedy for that feeling in the pit of my stomach before Texas played Arkansas. The games were a release of true emotion.

Texas put together an entire halftime show to make fun of us for leaving for the SEC in our last year in the SWC.

Looney Tunes halftime show circa 1990

It's Arkansas.

Depends on the age of the person answering, I'd imagine. Since OU was last in the SWC over 100 years ago, we'll substitute in Arkansas.

Younger fans would probably say aggy.

Older fans would probably say Arkansas ten times out of ten.

SWC was Arkansas, aggy, then going way back, Rice.

Overall it’s OU, ND, Ark, then Aggy. ND fits in because of them being ND plus national championship games in 69,70 and 77. Aggy vs Texas has never been for a national title between them. A few and very few of the games were for the winner to be the conference champion.
