Just for some perspective on Clemson's best win vs Wake Forest. Wake Forest is undefeated that's true. They actually share a common opponent with LSU being Utah St. I know that you can't just look at one game vs a common opponent as being equal, but Wake needed a 4th quarter comeback to beat Utah St 38-35...while LSU won wire to wire in dominating fashion 42-6. Wake would be a below .500 team in the SEC this year. Even if they were in the east and had arky and ole miss as their cross opponents.

It's likely he'll pay for it come playoff time. He'll have the most untested team of any of the four there.

Every single season we hear how weak the ACC is and how weak Clemson's schedule is....

Then rivalry weekend rolls around

Who needs to wait to rivalry weekend?

Florida State lost to Boise State and had to go to OT to beat Louisiana-Monroe

North Carolina lost to App State

NC State lost to West Virginia

Syracuse was destroyed by Maryland

Boston College lost to Kansas

Georgia Tech lost to the Citidel and to Temple

Who need metrics when we all have eyes? The ACC is trash.

Holy shite

Vandy could probably make the playoff with that schedule

If that's how it ends up, it's hard to argue with the defending champs going 13-0 and making it to the playoffs even with a weak resume.

The CFP has been pretty consistent.. they have never left out a 13-0 or 12-0 P5 team and never a 12-1 P5 champion. If CU, OSU, and OU go undefeated or win their conference with no more than 1 loss. They are in...

If SP+ doesn't think Clemson has a better than 50% of being unbeaten they need to blow it up and find a new model.
SP+ rates Clemson much lower than FPI does, likely because FPI is using more of the preseason guestimate now than than SP+ does.

But, using FPI percentages, multiply out all the Clemson games' win percentages and Clemson only has a 64% chance of being undefeated at the end of the regular season. Factor in playing in the ACCCG, and it's less than 60% of being undefeated even with the overly generous FPI values.

I'd take SP+ over ESPN marketing tool FPI any day.

Absolutely - which is funny since they are both at ESPN now

True, but Bill Connelly offers some transparency to how SP+ works and sometimes explains what is happening when something is head scratching. FPI is a black box that who knows how or if ESPN is fudging.

If you think an undefeated team that has won 2 of the last 3 natties is getting left out you’re delusional.

Yes I know you’ll say that has nothing to do with this year....but the rankings are based on last year else there wouldn’t be any until later in the season.

And I can say the same about half the SEC who has more teams with losing records than any conference and lost several games to non power 5 teams.

It’s hilarious how y’all ignore the bad losses by the SEC.

I mean..........boy. Clemson would go, because they are the defending champs and would be undefeated

If it did play out like this, no way Georgia gets left out.

Why do you think so highly of Notre Dame, Texas, and Oregon?

So playing a decent schedule makes a team a great OOC win?

You'd have Georgia, LSU, and Penn State all sitting out there with multiple big wins and losses only to the Top 2 teams.

Quite a debate, but my guess is Clemson would get the nod unfortunately.

Yep. I think this year’s Clemson would get embarrassed in the CFP (and even against UGA/LSU), but that would have no bearing on the selection.

Notre Dame pretty much plays an ACC schedule. Lol.

So again, why are people so high on them?

Why are people high on Texas? Why does that one win vault LSU into the playoff discussion over the other undefeated teams?
