Tenner is 5-5. That used to get a coach fired there. How can that be considered a great job by the coach?

Texas A&M has underachieved, Fisher is not in the top five choices.

Huepel inherited a disaster. Most of the talent transferred out. Vols were expected to be really bad.

Relative to preseason. But not relative to where they were when they lost their starting QB.
A&M should have gone off the rails completely after the State game. The fact that Fisher pulled them back from the brink is nothing short of remarkable.

If Leach wins the Egg Bowl he finishes 2nd is the West. Considering where we were picked preseason, it has to be him.

CoTY should go to a coach who has exceeded expectations.
Georgia going 12-0 (8-0) for the first time ever and beating the absolute shite out of literally everyone they played is exceeding expectations.
That isn't just some sort of given.

I'd front Fisher actually. And my argument would be that he overcame key injuries and got his team back on track after a very rocky start to the season.
As long as he insists on calling his own plays, Fisher should never be considered coach of the year.

If Kirby wins the SECCG he will be the unanimous choice - and should be.

I could see an argument for Fisher, but I think it's more impressive to change a culture while building from the ground up.
Hard for me to say it's anyone but Pittman.
Leach at 2 for the same reasons.
Fisher at 3 for overcoming all the injuries and keeping team generally on track to keep building the program.

Just because you have the most talented team doesn't necessarily mean it's easy to go undefeated and win it all. Smart, for example, may have the most talented roster (which he constructed, BTW, and there's something to be said for that) but he's also dealing with way more pressure than anyone else (due to UGA's history of underachievement since the infamous 1980 title and his own near misses in recent years), has to handle possible complacency issues against inferior teams, five star egos, and taking everyone's best shot.
I'm not saying Smart should or shouldn't be COTY (there is too much football left to determine that right now anyway) but I think a coach meeting high pressure expectations at one program can be just as impressive as exceeding low pressure expectations at another program.

Because we're going to finish 8-5, had 3 total wins last season, were the hardest hit team by the portal, have a roster the size of a FCS school, went from an offense in the 100s to a top offense, and the coach is in YEAR 1

If Leach beats OM and finishes 8-4 and 2nd in the west he deserves it considering we were picked last in the west.
Pittman would also be a good choice.
Ole Miss was predicted to win 9-10 games so Kiffin is just doing about what was expected
Kirby has a dominant Georgia team and also deserves it.

1. Sam Pittman (7-3 is outstanding.. I want to say this, but it is all due to my genuine love for the man's love of the game/his team and overall humility. titboss is the tits. if he knocks off Bama, it's his.)
2. Lane Kiffin (another outstanding Kiffin effort. The man is the QB whisperer. Corral is a stud and he's made him look like a hero in spite of injuries all over the field including Corral (warrior without doubt) himself
3. Mike Leach (Nope. Too inconsistent. but, GD his fun to watch. thank you AU for that post-game dance video of a penguin learning how to walk)
4. Kirby Smart (not in the conversation. Most talented roster, most returning experience/coaches, easiest path. Saban will be more deserving if his mash unit and transient coaching staff knocks off UGa in the CG)
