I would add that Pete most certainly has the upper hand on Lane, having coached against his offense in practice.

He can be a very good coach or a Larry Coker once Lanes players leave.Also his ability to attract quality assistants mainly coordinators once the guys they have now leave.See Coach O , Jerry dinardo,Houston Nutt ,they were all good until the talent ,players and coaches left.

Should have a good team with a number of high caliber starters returning to a playoff team.
yet to see haw he competes log term in the NIL era with signing day players and with transfers. there is a lot of competition in not just the SEC when it comes to program war chests and expectations.
someone has to miss the expectations mark......

I mean, we signed the #2 portal class this last round and currently have our best HS recruiting class in a decade committed.

They can definitely lose to Louisville.
If they lose to LSU, I can see it falling apart, big time. Good luck getting the morale up in Gainesville.
Alternatively, if they beat both Louisville and LSU, I could see them undefeated going to Austin.
That said, that Texas-Auburn-Georgia-Oklahoma four game stretch is brutal. I could see anything from 2-2 to 0-4.

He has the support of the NIL collective as evidenced by his #2 portal class. The recruiting class is set to finish as the highest rated class since the Shea Patterson/AJ Brown class of 2016.
Replacing Chambliss won't be easy but he brought in former 5* QB prospect Deuce Knight to compete with former 4* AJ Maddox so there's at least some talent in the room already.
All that to say, if he fails, it will be because he/his staff failed to properly evaluate talent/fit/needs. It will not be a resource issue.

I could also see 4-0.
Again, in 2024 he beat one of my alma maters in the national championship game. In 2025, he beat another one of my alma maters in the playoffs.

I dont understand why everybody has already decided Pete Golding is either gonna be great or a complete disaster. The guy has barely coached a game yet and allot of you are acting like Ole Miss either struck gold or got sold a bag of rocks. Personally I think he deserves a fair shot. You dont throw away a valuable metal just because it needs polished.
Golding has been around the SEC forever, knows defense and knows the program. Thats worth its weight in gold right there. Is he the gold standard yet? Obviously not. But I think he could be a 24 carrot coach if they give him time. People laugh but carrots are good for you and so is continuity.
The real question is whether Ole Miss fans have the patients to let this play out. Half a doesn’t bad games and everybody will start looking for an escape goat. Thats just how this conference works. Personally I’d bank on Golding. Fort Knox didnt get built in a day.

If you’re anything but bullish on Golding after his career as a coordinator, level of mentorship, recruiting chops and performance all around these last 8 months then you are trying too hard to be a hater. That’s fine, just don’t pretend you’re being objective.
