quote:

“It’s a relatively short time I was here, 80 games. That’s a year and a third,” Mainieri said. “I did it. I worked hard at it. We didn't do as well as I would have hoped we would have done. But I don't have any regrets about doing it either.”

quote:

Mainieri still believes that he could've turned things around at South Carolina if he had been given the chance. But he and Donati realized that it was going to take time to rebuild the program, which, given his age, was something that Mainieri realized that he didn’t have.

“The people here just got very impatient. I'm not talking necessarily even about the athletic director. He was great,” Mainieri said. “But I think (the people) above him, and I think the fans and the media, everybody here was pretty impatient.

quote:

His time at South Carolina, he says, was just a “small chapter” in his career. “I'm not going to let one little 80-game era ruin my feelings about my career,” Mainieri said. “And I hope other people don't look at it that way either.”

frick this guy. Calling the fanbase ‘impatient’ after fielding the 2 worst teams in program history is crazy

In his defense ALL fanbases seem to be more impatient than they used to be.

Paul is well known to be an a-hole.

His statement is 1000% on brand.

I can just here him saying all of that in that Yankee pussy arse voice he has. He needs to shut the frick up. It was a terrible hire to begin with and the people who made that decision are morons for bringing him to Carolina.

Don’t get mad at Paul, get mad at South Carolina. For the life of me I never understood the hire, I thought it was one of the worst I’ve ever seen in college baseball history and it turned out to be that way..

I don't think expecting not to suck rotten eggs is being impatient lol

Last season when he said "I didn’t know SEC baseball was this competitive" or something to the like should have been grounds for his removal.

What did South Carolina do to get the curse put on them? Or is it just karmic retribution for Dawn Staley’s crimes against humanity?

There's being impatient, then there's watching your national title winning program be worse than Missouri.

We've been asking that for around 100 years

I mean maybe don't start off your intro presser telling us how close SC is, and how this isn't a long rebuild but a win now

what's crazy is how bad Ray Tanner was as an AD. I mean success in one does not automatically transfer to the other but damn!

I would understand making bad hires in basketball and football, but the last thing I expected was the baseball program to crater.

he took over a regional team, it didn't need a total reboot and with the portal he should have at least been a regional team

just look at how his team played the rest of the series against Arkansas
his old school ways don't work anymore

Bertman handpicked Laval as his replacement, it doesn't always work the way legends think it will

Saying it takes time in the portal era to build a roster means he didn’t know what he’s doing. Justifies the firing more.

oh Paul - you poor soul -

Paul Mainieri admits he ‘forgot how hard it is to win college baseball games’

the man stepped into a job that had just played in a Super and Regional the prior two seasons and then he says this after going 6-28 in SEC baseball games
quote:

“The people here just got very impatient. I'm not talking necessarily even about the athletic director. He was great,” Mainieri said. “But I think (the people) above him, and I think the fans and the media, everybody here was pretty impatient.
Gamecock baseball didn't need a "rebuild" and many times Paul himself said on record during Fall 2024 and preseason 2025 that USC was NOT in a rebuilt mode - that he came to win right away and "I didn't come here to lose" -

then proceeded to post Carolina baseball's worst ever 6-24 conference record since USC started playing SEC baseball -

he agreed to keep Monte Lee on staff in order to retain core players including Ethan Petry so they would not portal out and leave the cupboard bare for Paul - and Monte did a very solid job doing exactly that - he then rewarded Lee for his efforts by immediately making Terry Looney the recruiting coordinator and ignoring Lee's deep rooted contacts with HS and Jr College coaches throughout both Carolinas -

NOBODY WAS IMPATIENT - EVERYONE WAS EMBARRASSED - big difference PAUL -
