I don't think this is making the point you thought it was going to make.
It actually says people from Oklahoma are almost twice as likely to be a meth addict than someone from Texas.

I guess "Per capita" isn't taught in Oklahoma unless you go for your Masters.

I'm with you when it comes to Sark, but OU extending Venables is good news to me. Frankly, both Texas and OU's head coaches are glorified offensive and defensive coordinators, respectively. The fact Sark owns Venables so far in head-to-head is nice though.

This is right, but Venables is a much better defensive coordinator than Sark is an offensive coordinator. Texas's offenses have been okay under Sark but nothing really noteworthy, while OU's defenses have been basically some of the best in the country under Venables.
So that's why I'm a bit more bullish about Venables than Sark. I think OU has a higher ceiling under Venables + Great OC than Texas does under Sark + Great DC.

The Sooners are so convinced Brent is the guy and dont realize he is literally Lincoln Riley in reverse. At least it is taking them years and years to figure out they wont win anything meaningful with BV either.

yeah true but you know how this series goes. I hate being favored in the RRR. They can absolutely beat us this year.
As overrated as I think Sark is as a head coach, at least he can win the rivalry games. 6-0 vs OU, Arky, and A&M in the SEC. It could definitely be a lot worse.
We're just not going to win a title with him. If we are ok with that, we can enjoy his tenure.

A lot of chatter on Venables Extension:
Here’s how I see it: Whether this is good or bad is unfalsifiable. I believe, truly, Oklahoma will be SEC and National title contenders, and tying up Venables at $10M a year is actually great value compared to other top coaches. But the inverse is also true. If 2026 is a bust, this is a fairly large mistake from a buyout perspective.
Here's why I think Denny made the right bet anyway. Look at the four years in context, not just the cumulative record. 2022 was a roster rebuild, he was just trying to fill a roster after taking over mid-cycle. 2024 had (approx.) 9 starters out for the season (I made this argument at the time to a lot of Sooner fans' annoyance, but it's just true.) Strip those two years out and you're left with 2023, a healthy roster, 10 wins, and 2025, 10 wins, and a home playoff game (even with an injured Mateer). Those are the two seasons where Venables actually had the players available to him, and both were double digit win years, the later with a defense that finished top 10 nationally in multiple categories.
To be fair, that's a thin sample to project a title window onto. But it's the data we've got, and it points the same direction both times.
To me, the question is whether 2026 looks more like 2023/2025 or more like 2022/2024. That comes down to health and continuity, and right now I don't see the same structural problems that wrecked those years. That's the actual bet being made here, in my opinion
Separate from all that, there's the roster and staff stability piece. In the current portal and NIL environment, recruits, transfers, and assistants all weigh (to different extents) whether a coaching staff is secure before they commit. That's a good asset on its own.

No doubt OU would recover that, in just one meth/dildo party Archy Manning throws... Tu nill and all that.

the rest of the SEC is happy about this. We all feared yall might fire him after a bad year and get a top tier coach

You're paying Lane Kiffin $13,000,000. Sit this one out.

The Brent Venables era has been a slow squeeze on opposing offenses.

I am expecting Missouri to lose to Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Mississippi State. I did post that Missouri will go 5-7 this season. I am done with Drinkwitz bloated salary for being just an average HC in the SEC. Missouri might want to look into hiring one of the current HCs that are looking for a better job after the season is over.

23-6.
Keep in mind, most people think that the coach that knocked ou out of the playoffs will be on the hot seat soon… and y’all gave your coach an extension
