I'm an attorney (not one who specializes in con law...but I did take a free speech class in law school) and JimEverett is basically the only person in this thread that seems to understand (1) how, why and when the First Amendment applies to government actions and (2) that the First Amendment restricts government actions and not ones by private actors (such as employers and businesses).

Courts are very sensitive to a government attempting to punish someone based on their political speech. It's basically the bedrock of our Constitution.

Law school, bro. It wasn't that hard to get in for this born and raised Oklahoman. UT isn't nearly as good of a school as it likes to pretend, there are schools that are much, much harder to attend. UT Law is actually better and harder to attend than undergrad there, so I even have a leg up on the ones with a "Texas degree."

Even if I didn't grow up a massive OU fan, why the hell would I root for the lesser football program?
I actually have degrees from both schools so think I can give a decent answer to this question.

First, we both very much dislike each other, and I think it's going to get worse now that UT is back to being their typical blowhard arrogant selves despite not really accomplishing anything. In a way it's nice to remember why we hated them so much in the first place--it's like "oh yeah these guys are insufferable, I forgot what it's like when they are decent at football."

But the fanbases have chilled out a lot since the wild days back in the 80s (and even the 2000s where'd you see a lot more violence between the two). I think people in general in the country have chilled out more (which is a good thing--fighting over sports is European and trashy).

I also think a lot of it is due to both fanbases appreciating how special the OU/Texas game/atmosphere is. Normal college football games kind of pale in comparison to it (it's basically like Christmas if you're an OU or UT fan), and so I think there's just a shared gratitude that, in spite of all the changes to college football (mostly for the negative), we still have this game.
I'd be down to kick out OU if it meant the system goes back to how the conferences were in the 2000s.

Seeing how that's impossible, I think if expansion has to happen, you look at the southern ACC schools. Please not Miami.

I don't think anyone in the western half of the conference's footprint (meaning the Big 12 states) is worth adding now that OU and Texas are in. Oklahoma State would be fun for Okies (and they'd fit in fairly well) but they're simply not worth adding at all unless you want another Mississippi State-esque school.
Ah, you're one of the folks who don't really understand the Constitution, my bad for not getting that.

A quick rundown is that Amendments are changes to the Constitution, and the language in them is what decides what is now considered Constitutional. If the lack of AC is deemed to be "cruel and unusual punshment" under the 8th Amendment by the courts, then yes, AC is absolutely the same as "an entire amendment". Prisoners would then have the same constitutional right to AC as you or I would to bear arms.
I'm going to take a wild guess that this board would lose its shite if a judge upheld a ban on all guns that weren't around when the 2nd Amendment was enacted.

In the same way that "arms" in the 2nd Amendment can now encompass things that weren't around in 1791, "cruel and unusual punishment" in the 8th Amendment can now encompass things that weren't around in 1791 (such as having access to AC in the hell that is a Texas summer).

So this board (and apparently Trump's administration) is now contending that the government of Venezuela is invading the United States? In order for this Act to apply, the invasion has to be by a foreign nation or government.

If this is true, surely we should then declare war on Venezuela, right? That should be the first step if we're getting invaded by another country.
It's laughable to claim a football national title if it wasn't awarded by the AP or UPI. OU would have like 18 if we did that, and I'd make fun of us relentlessly if we did.

I rarely watch college basketball apart from OU games but an Auburn game a few weeks ago was on at a bar and I noticed this guy praying in the orange (who must have season tickets there) is highly entertaining to watch. Dude loses his shite a lot, I admire the passion.
This is the dumbest thread I’ve ever seen on this board and that’s saying something.

If you think Europe wants WW3 you’re a complete fricking idiot.

The only one who does might be the guy who’s been invading his neighbors since 2008. But I’m sure that’s somehow the US’s fault, according to the patriots here.
Everything you said is spot on. I rarely post on this board but read it here and there because it is truly completely unhinged and insane, and I’m somewhat fascinated by it. These people here live in some weird alternate reality where what was shown today from Trump and Vance showed anything but childish bullshite you’d expect from a teenager. It’s entertaining but also completely depressing that this country is filled with these people.

Kinda drunk from a night out, and I will bow out now. You batshit crazies keep up the good work.

We are currently a trash program, correct. I’m not sure who Mizzou even played in their meaningless bowl game but I do not care what happened in it

1. Who gives a shite if this is true or not

2. Meaningless bowl games are meaningless

Edit: never understood conference pride, especially because the SEC will always get the benefit of the doubt. So why do I give a shite if Bama loses to Michigan? My team needs to win and outside of that y’all can GFY
Very disappointing we picked this year to start sucking. That game today was embarrassing regardless of all our excuses.

UT isn’t really that good, just got lucky with an easy schedule.

Team A takes OC from Team B. Team B takes OC from Team C. Team B's fans don't react strongly to either move, meaning there's no hypocrisy. That is the logic.

If you're trying to make some reference to how OU is on another level as a program than Wazzu and MSU, then I'd argue that is irrelevant and why should OU fans want our program to hamstring ourselves to be overly nice to a "lesser" program like Wazzu.

Guess I'll bite--if you want to be logically consistent, you should compare us taking Wazzu's OC to Mississippi State taking our OC last year (which directly led to our terrible season this year). I don't remember many OU fans directing indignation at MSU then or now, and so I don't think of our fanbase as hypocritical.
Anderson has issues with health, but I'm sad to see him go. I'm ecstatic that Bauer Sharp will not be our TE next year. That sums it up from me.

Anyone rooting for Ohio State and Texas hates puppies. Might be the two most insufferable fanbases in the country.
I’m not even sure it’s legal to root for Texas in Oklahoma
