He’s an offense first dude. Just need a stud qb and some skill players and he can outscore everybody. Tells his DC, just get me the ball back from opponents scoring or whatever and I’ll outscore any team.

That works out for him about 9-10 times a year, which is good and all.

BUT about 2-3 times a year he plays teams that play tough, fundamental football with some dudes in the trenches and his team gets smacked in the mouth.

If he wants to win a championship he needs to at least attempt to get some guys that can blow people off the ball.
I normally expect you to troll, but you're dead on with this about Riley. And he would have done the same at LSU had he come here.

Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State and Wisconsin are going to try to knock their QB out. If Rhule can gain traction at Nebraska, they will also try to do the same. Someone will succeed, and depending on how early in the year it is, USC could be in deep shite. This isn't like a bowl matchup where you need one good game, they're going to a physical conference.

Especially when you consider it didn't happen because LSU rose to that level, but rather the rest of the division was down.

It's not just the defense, IMO Saban has become enamored with a pass happy offense that doesnt try to break the will of his opponents.

That leads to softer teams on both sides. The last two years I have not seen an LSU team stand up to and even beat bama at the LOS. Think about it.

Defensively Alabama ran a bunch of defensive fronts that had only 1 or 2 actual lineman. They were then putting in linebackers to fill the rest of the line.

This worked great against smaller teams with all the extra speed. And even against teams with bigger lineman, we got more sacks.

However, against bigger SEC defenses, they were out matched weight wise and teams were able to run the ball much more than they had in the past. That is why Alabama was losing the line of scrimmage more often, it's not a matter of being soft, it was a matter of shitty schemes.

It was some weird attempt at creating something like the nickel/dime packages that use extra db's, except with extra linebackers and less lineman. It was dumb, undersized when it comes to stopping the run. It was why Drew Sanders transferred to Arkansas.

I hope I never see it again.

Offensively, BoB doesn't know how to stretch a field or call plays that get guys open, etc. The biggest plays offensively generally come from back yard bullshite after the play broke down, not because BoB was doing anything.

I'm no insider, but his contract is about to expire, and it hasn't been renewed so I take that as a big indicator he won't be back next year, and he will be off to the NFL after the bowl game.

Fair enough, actually for some odd reason I had Purdue mixed up with Washington, so yes, it does not seem likely that they will lose to Purdue.

LSU was destroyed by Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Georgia.

Two of those team were ranked #1 in the country at the time when they played LSU. Those two teams did what they were supposed to do....the did what seasoned teams do to rebuilding teams.

Texas A&M was on Kelly and was really his only true mistake this year (maybe other than going for the W against FSU instead of the tie but that would have been a real hard decision to make). It's clear that Kelly wasn't informed that LSU is A&M's superbowl every year. They play harder against us than any other team and that's if they've won all their games or just a couple of games. I don't think that mistake will be made again.

Now I know the offices are in Birmingham and that the fragile LSU can’t handle this hence all the crazy conspiracy theories, but the SEC says Alabama won the west this year along with LSU.

Please tell me Bama isn’t going to go all Ole Miss on everyone and add this to their wall of claimed titles.

LSU sure didn’t in the late 90’s when they tied for the west (but didn’t represent in ATL) and were starved for any kind of recognition in those terrible 90’s for LSU football.

4 factors contributed to that loss.

1. I don't think LSU expected Achane to play.

2. Jimbo did a lot of things offensively in play calling and scheme that they hadn't done all season.

3. LSU's lack of depth gassed them down the stretch, you started seeing it appear vs Arkansas and UAB.

4. A&M made some incredible plays. Weigman threw two great passes that were amazing catches for touchdowns. The scoop and score put LSU out of the game.

"special ed was pulling in top 10 classes don't pretend LSU was left without talent" some people on here are more special than Ed with statements like these. Special ED left LSU with 39 eligible scholarship players, that's what Kelly took over

Special Ed was pulling in top 10 classes on his way out. Don't pretend LSU was without talent. They were not and that is why Kelly took the job in the first place. Hell, Houston Dale Nutt won like crazy with Ed O's recruits. Kelly lost to FSU and Texas A&M.

This is laughable and shows you don’t pay attention to college football at all. Kelly came in December 2021 with like 34 scholarship players left from O’s 2021 team and most of those were not starters the previous season.

Hell LSU had a no-name WR playing QB in the bowl game that year just to show how many players opted out, graduated, transferred after O left.

You seem to be confusing "eligible" with "available". You had more than 39 scholarship players, the 39 was just the number available to play in the bowl game last year.

It didn't count injuries or any scholarship players who were out for the game, but not off the team.

Well Napier lost to Vandy and 6 others teams on the way to 6-7. Idk if I have to explain how numbers work, but that’s worse

Saban lost to LA Monroe and went 7-6 his first year at Alabama.

Players were leaving the team in droves.

Usually it's the guys who do well in their first years who end up fired quickly. Not to say everyone who does badly in their first year is destined for greatness, but sometimes large changes are required.
