...but this year's Bama team is the most disappointing of Saban's tenure. 2010 was disappointing too, but that team at least had the excuse of having just won the NC the year before. This year's team got beaten in the NC game last season, so you'd think they would have good reason to be more focused and dialed in this year. Instead, we look even less organized, motivated, and combobulated than we did in 2021. That's coaching, plain and simple.

Penalties through the roof. Game plans that are pathetically bad. Absolutely zero in-game adjustments to speak of. Poor tackling. Mental errors everywhere. No fire. No passion. No leadership. Just a whole sideline of people milling around aimlessly waiting on Bryce Young to bail them out, time after time after time.

I'm not calling out Saban because duh. If the man wants to milk his accomplishments and coast to a ten million dollar paycheck every year for the next ten years, it isn't like he hasn't earned that right. But if you're gonna do that, Coach, at least hire some halfway-decent coordinators and assistants to mind the ship for you. These bumblefricks roaming our sidelines now are fricking shite up, big time.

Why? They were told by the coach it wasn’t their fault, just bad injury luck. They didn’t need to change.

The program is currently on a pretty clear downward trajectory. He's got this offseason to fix it in terms of staff, but I'm not sure he thinks the defensive coaching is an issue, incredibly. We'll find out I guess. BoB is going to be gone, though, at least.

But it's more than that. The program isn't tough anymore, isn't disciplined and isn't built around faceless men who perform like robots. He talks about mental pressures and anxiety, talks about how hard the kids are working and how bad they want to win, discusses personal value, etc etc. I dunno if it's the age thing or the NIL thing or what, but the entire structure of the program has changed and the results are pretty clearly showing that the change was negative. I'm not sure he has the ability to get that back at this point in his career.

Heading into the season I legitimately thought this might be the team to go 15-0. I expected dominance. Retribution even. Womp Womp Womp.

I don’t fully disagree with everything but does one point make that much of a difference?

It took two absolute magical environments and inspired quality opponents to knock Bama in the final play of each game. Is that really that bad?

Other programs can improve also, maybe that has something to do with it also.

I think Bama is fine and people are over reacting. It just won’t be as easy as other teams get better.

How are Bama's D-linemen and O-linemen compared to last year and prior?

That seemed to be where Bama excelled the most and why they were so dominant for over a decade.

Saban needs to clean house. His coordinators are horrid at pretty much every position

I said in another thread "age". He's 71, not 60. I don't think a lot of people realize how much effect this has. If he can find great coordinators who can take more on around him, it could work, but those guys will get hired away.

He clearly made the decision to hire people who he could keep around for multiple years - 1st with Golding as more of a diamond in the rough type guy and then with BoB as..........well I don't know what.

Golding hasn't ever really developed past the "guy who is good on the blackboard" that Saban hired and BoB.........well he could stay around forever because nobody is swooping in to hire him at Texas or Georgia.

It isn't just that we lost, it's how we looked doing it, and frankly how we've looked winning the games we've won, too. The difference between this team and the 2020 and prior teams is stark, and it isn't just that the players have changed. The entire demeanor of the program seems different.

Saban's staff has been a revolving door of coordinators in his tenure. No one bats 1.000 but Saban has the highest average when hiring assistants of any coach I've seen. That said Golding and BOB have been misses. Question is can he do the correct thing and replace or is he going to be stubborn and loyal and stick by them?

Gonna be an interesting offseason for Bama imo, there's gotta be some serious self evaluation for everyone on the staff

Thanks to the Bama fans honest assessment.

Could it be an NIL thing? I think the majority of his players are mercenaries. They were willing to take the abuse from him (more than tough love) to get the NFL payday.

But now in the NIL world, those same players are getting paid in college. Takes a bit of the desire out of them. Lack of team. Lack of cohesion.

To motivate kids to play now, you have to have more than promise of NFL $ and fear (Sabans stick and trade). This team looks like a bunch of fat and happy mercenaries. You’ll get the wins where your 5 stars dominate physically, but when they match up against similar Tallent (or lesser Tallent) that is motivated, you get TN and LSU. Look out for Ole Miss and Auburn (nothing to lose).

You' re right, but I also think a big clue that something is not quite right is how hard Bama had to go to the portal. No team that recruits like Bama and is a stable situation should need so many transfers.

Nick was incredibly lucky every threatening SEC team in his tenure besides Florida in the beginning was coached by a retard. And now you arent the only team that can buy players. This is your new reality.
