I think the Cats have gained some respect among the coaches (who ranked them 31) and their SEC counterparts, but they still have absolutely none among the national media.

So you think what you did last year warrants votes this year? I think UK will be okay, but they aren't on the level they were last year. You lost too much from that roster - especially the two "once-in-a-generation" type players you had.

2018 Kentucky was a good team that won 9 regular season games.
And then lost a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rounder from defense and a 4th round RB.

Based on history, nobody is convinced that Kentucky can replace that kind talent the very next year. It's nothing personal. If you want to be ranked every year then you have to prove it for a few years in a row.

Or you could be sensible and pay no attention to pre-season polls

Kentucky is a very respectable program, but you can't expect to be held in high contention when you lose the best RB and DE/LB you've had in quite a long time and expect to be held to the same standard. I still think Kentucky surprises some East teams this year.

I couldn't finish because of work. But somewhere somebody should've voted UK in top 25, where the hell are your media people?

So, they are probably basing it on what is coming back and on projection vs their schedule.

Kentucky is 64th in returning offensive production and 117th in returning defensive production. 2019 College Football Returning Production

If they actually looked at the schedule, they’d probably be getting more credit even with the personnel loses. It’s a favorable one.

You lost some star players from last year so most people expect you to be back to your normal self . There is not 46 teams that are better then Kentucky either.

That’s the biggest issue. No UK fan was expecting a Top 15 or even Top 20 spot in the poll.

But we’re talking about not even getting 1 vote. That’s absurd.

On the surface it is better than last year's schedule.

Florida in Lexington (a game UK won last year)
Trading off Arkansas for aTm (one of the games they lost last year)
Missouri in Lexington (a 1 point win last year)
Tennessee in Lexington
OOC against Toledo, Eastern Michigan, UT Martin and Louisville (lesser competition than last year)
Bye weeks before Arkansas and Tennessee.

Looking closer...what could be close games against South Carolina and Mississippi State are both away from home, and MSU and USCe are back to back.

Florida has a bye week and UT Martin before facing UK...and will be pissed about the streak ending last year. The fact that Florida plays their opener a week before everyone else, could actually help them in the long run...since it gives them 3 bye weeks in the season where everyone else has 2.

Arkansas has a bye week before facing UK, so it negates the advantage of UK's bye week at the same time.

Tennessee has UAB the week before playing in Lexington (though it will be a the end of a 6-game stretch for them).

All in all, I you are right that it is a favorable schedule.

The media must have seen this team during the spring games and practice games and compared it all the other teams and ranked then to what your team is at right now. There were a lot of drop off from last year. Nebraska must have gain a lot from many returning key players. Also saw what they like about Nebraska from a year ago during the second half of the season. The better coach got them up to where the media felt it was warranted for the spot given to both teams. Do not forget I hate Nebraska and would want the team to be bad forever!

Can’t believe Stoops isn’t getting respect. He is at this point a poor man’s Gary Pinkel, with the chance to elevate Kentucky for the next decade. He’s a good coach that has earned our respect for sure...even if he benefited from the worst pass interference in college football last year.

There's a reason the AP poll isn't used for anything official anymore.

Sportswriters are myopic, self congratulating idiots.
