I posted where the NCAA committee commented and said that since Kentucky provide dorm accommodations, they felt that was sufficient.
Oh, John Cohen, former Kentucky coach and mentor to the current coach, felt that was fine. Big surprise there.

Answer the question I posed above: Is UK entitled to a pass next year if they host, since this is an annual event likely to pose a conflict? Do they get to play dumb twice?

It’s not just the concert.

Lexington is also hosting the KHSAA state championships in track and field, softball, baseball, and tennis. Some of those events rotate to other venues across the state in other years.

Considering where they were picked to begin the season they likely didn’t anticipate doing well enough to host. I don’t believe it will be an issue next season to request hotel blocks beforehand, knowing this was an issue this season. You’ll also have some wiggle room with other KHSAA events not all being in Lexington the same weekend as the concert.

Some UK fans wish UK would of provided nicer/newer dorms. But the ones throwing fits shaming anyone that complains better not be hypocrites and complain if UK ever gets paid back the same way.

I don’t have an issue with college athletes staying in a dorm. I do think they should’ve provided a newer dorm, as was initially indicated. But I’ve also been a trainer who stayed in some shitty hotels on the road when I was with a C-USA school.

Louisville to Lexington (going speed limit) is right at 90 minutes.

That’s great and all, but with this apparently being the biggest weekend of the year in Lexington, you don’t think they might run into some traffic that could turn it into a 2+ hour drive?

They can plan to leave early like the rest of us.

ETA: Were you all this concerned about Auburn’s commute in the Supers last season?

At this point fricke it. Everyone wants to bitch and complain and run this into the ground.

Wait a second. Kentucky fans were the ones claiming that these dorms were nicer than hotels and now you’re pissed that you are being called out for it? Kentucky got criticized all week for this and they still weren’t able to make sure that each room had multiple pillows, a mattress topper, and working A/C before WVU showed up.

I don't recall who, but I called out the shitty hosts last year too. You can check my post history.

Hahaha I’m sure you wouldn’t complain at all if Kentucky was traveling and the team and fans all had to stay 2+ hours away from the field.

I’m not familiar with Auburn’s Super Regional commute last year, but if they had to commute 1.5+ hours daily to get to the field, yeah I’d say that’s pretty shitty too.

The subject of the host schools responsibilities came up here, but in relation to Oklahoma State:

I've had to do it myself as a trainer (and as a player in high school), so no I won't be complaining. It's college sports. You do your best to accommodate when issues arise.

Y'all are the ones acting like these players are so fragile they can't stay in a dorm within walking distance of a stadium. That regular college students stay in for a whole school year.

But they shouldn’t have to rough it because you say so. We all make $80M a year being in this conference, so no excuses. People don’t have to accept below standard accommodations bc you were a trainer in HS and you think they are fine. That’s irrelevant.

Btw, I’m giving you a hard time. It happens, but this week, your school will just have to take the criticism on the chin. People will forget by next year. Not this board, we never forget, but normal people will forget.

Trainer in college. That stayed on campuses and in hotels. And the irony that it’s below standard for baseball players but apparently not for other college students is an interesting angle.

Surely you understand that there is a difference in high school baseball and hosting a NCAA Regional right?

I actually wasn’t even initially mad at Kentucky. They wanted to host so they sent a plan to the NCAA and it got approved. I became irritated when Kentucky fans started saying that the players were getting better accommodations at the dorm than they would be at a hotel. Then it got worse when Kentucky didn’t even adequately prepare the dorms before the team arrived. That’s what’s embarrassing.

I was a trainer in college (as I said in a previous post). And have traveled in an NCAA post-season where accommodations weren't great. I'm very aware of the difference.

The initial impression was they were staying in a different dorm.

As far as WVU, it's my understanding they changed plans to stay in Lexington after initially requesting to stay in hotels in Louisville (which is why there was confusion in reporting WVU staying in Louisville). I'm also not surprised they're really beating the drum because they felt we robbed them of a host site. And having stayed in Morgantown, I'd take the Kentucky dorms.

There hasn't been a peep from Ball State's folks. This is all they've posted today:

That’s great. Just because you had to deal with shitty accommodations when you were a trainer in college, doesn’t make these accommodations any better. The majority of this board probably stayed in dorms. They fricking suck. That’s the whole point.

That was never the initial impression. The original email that was sent out stated the exact dorm that they are staying in. Kentucky fans just made the assumption to make it look better for them.

Sure, bud.

And y'all are out here screaming like we sent kids to the gulag.

I created this post with a link to the email that was sent out that stated exactly what dorms they were using. We weren’t the ones claiming these dorms were nicer than hotels. Y’all were.

Not the gulag, just a shitty situation for the opposing teams & fans for possibly the next 5 nights, that’s all.

Next time they can win more and host themselves if players (fans should be able to find rooms since the issue was not being able to buy in blocks) struggle to stay in a dorm. Should be good motivation for them.
