This seems to be conveniently ignored. He mentions 100% twice in those two statements.

And if Arky gets turned down by Venables we will 100% know why.

There's a line in here somewhere and many cross it all the time, imo. When you look at big hires in the past, I'd wager that most didn't work out. It's certainly worth it if the coach works out, but it's a huge gamble.

Having said that, it's mostly booster money, so I don't really care. These comments actually worry me that a little, if they signify that Yurachek won't open the vault for good coaches and assistants. My guess is that it's a message for the boosters, saying he won't make the same mistake Long allegedly made.

No, because under that assumption you are pretending that their aren't other reasons for staying at Clemson. I know you are not that naive.

This is also not shown proper context. One of the biggest issues that the fan base had with Long was the buyout. Not shocking that he brought this up.

To me, losing football games is being terminated with cause. The protection sometimes that coaches are provided within their contracts to me is ludicrous.

Boom. He’s exactly right. In what other profession is this not the case?

If I were a CEO of a Fortune 500 Company, getting paid millions, I’d definitely expect to get canned without an exorbitant contract payout if I let the company’s revenue, culture, and reputation slip over the span of a few years.

He's not wrong. Our last AD fricked us.

What do you think your current AD just did?? 75 million guaranteed. Y'all will be raising hades about that in 2-3 years.

But that isn't how it works. Shitty CEOs get golden parachutes all the time.

Sumlin went 5-7 his 3rd year at Houston.

Yes, but that was super strange. He was on his 4th QB by like the 3rd game of the season due to multiple injuries.

Locking in a Saban or a Meyer or a Fisher to a guaranteed contract isn't much of a risk

Typical A&M thing to lump in a guy with a sole natty with 2 coaches who have a combined 8.

El oh el if you think Fisher is in the Tier man.

The man brought up a legitimate point, worthy of discussion. He's not a Marxist, he just points out that coaches contracts are a hyperbolic curve that have to peak at some point. The peak won't be brought about by collusion or other nefarious means, but the bubble will burst and return to some type of equilibrium. It has to.

There's a lot of stupid in this thread.

He isn't wrong. But good luck getting a coach when everyone else is doing it.

Isn’t Arkansas about to offer 2.6 mil for a defensive coordinator?

It won't be ADs like him that bring about that equilibrium though.

It will be college presidents and boards of directors that put the brakes on when the TV money dries up or when a big lawsuit changes who can get paid in the sport.

ADs have no incentive to push back in coaching contracts, as not getting the big fish can be just as bad as overpaying for the big fish.

I think the bubble is about to burst and teams will be more willing to take a chance on unproven but successful lower tier guys or assistants than hiring big names.
Big programs will fork out the cash.

LSU wouldn't meet jimbos demands. I'm sure there will be others.

True about LSU. But Jimbo pulled in an unbelievable contract within 12 months, in the same damn conference/division.

Yep, and only 3.5 for HC

We won't get him and be paying that much anyway though

Some other teams are holding the line however.

This is the start of the jimbo saga and it could turn bad.

Alabama wouldn't offer jimbo a 75 million contract at this time if Saban left.
