NEW 2027 US News and World Report University Rankings

SEC schools:
16. Vanderbilt (up 1 spot)
34. Texas (down 4)
34. Florida (down 4)
52. Georgia (down 6)
59. Texas A&M (down 8)
95. Missouri (up 7)
100. Auburn (up 2)
109. Tennessee (down 7)
116. Oklahoma (down 6)
121. S Carolina (up 6)
148. Kentucky (down 5)
156. Alabama (up 13)
179. Ole Miss (down 10)
202. LSU (down 33)
208. Miss State (even)
For the most part, most every school stayed very close to where they were rated last year. Alabama seems to make a larger than normal move up (good for them) while LSU absolutely tumbled.... plummeting 33 spots.
Ranking all 68 Power 4 schools...
Vanderbilt now ranks 4th behind only Stanford, Duke, and Northwestern. They jumped over Cal-Berkeley.
Texas and Florida are tied for 16th among the 68 Power 4 schools. They both lost ground to Georgia Tech, Boston College and Illinois.
Georgia ranks 23rd in the Power 4... they fell a spot at the expense of Wake Forest.
Texas A&M ranks 29th in the Power 4... losing ground to Wake Forest, Miami, and Penn State.
Missouri comes in at 40th in the Power 4... separating themselves away from Auburn (previously tied) and Colorado.
Auburn is 41st... moved up a spot over Colorado.
Tennessee is 43rd... moved back a spot as they were previously tied with Auburn and Missouri.
Oklahoma is 46th among the 68 Power 4... staying put from last year.
South Carolina is up a spot to 50th at the expense of UCF.
Kentucky is flat at 54th in the Power 4.
Alabama is 56th among the 68 Power 4... making major moves past Nebraska, Utah, Cincinnati, and Louisville.
Ole Miss is 60th of 68 power schools... moving past LSU for the second time this week.
Arkansas is 64th among 68 power schools... flat from last year.
LSU is 66th... falling behind Ole Miss, Texas Tech, Arkansas, and Oklahoma State.
Miss State is once again 67th of 68 power schools... thank God again for West Virginia.

The rankings appear to mostly jive with acceptance rates with couple of outliers:
Elite Tier:
16. Vanderbilt- 5% acceptance rate
Highly Selective Tier:
34. Florida- 20%
34. Texas- 22%
52. Georgia- 34%
59. Texas A&M- 52%
No Longer Safety Schools:
95. Missouri- 76%
100. Auburn- 47%
109. Tennessee- 44%
110. Oklahoma- 78%
121. South Carolina- 57%
Safety Schools:
148. Kentucky- 94%
156. Alabama- 71%
179. Ole Miss- 97%
191. Arkansas- 74%
202. LSU- 69%
208. Miss State- 96%
Based upon selectivity, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Kentucky appear to be a bit overvalued in these rankings while Auburn, Tennessee, and South Carolina appear to be a bit undervalued.
I'm assuming the acceptance rates at the Texas schools are a bit muted because a ton of kids who aren't close to the Top 5% or 10% of their class or whatever the threshold is don't bother applying.

I hate having to debunk these stupid rankings yearly but here we are again.
If you look at their methodology 20% of the ranking is “peer assessment” or what faculty of other colleges think of the university.
Only 5% is graduate earnings.
These rankings have been a running joke for years man.

It also depends on your major. Would I go to a highly ranked liberal arts university to be an engineer? MSU is a better choice than Ivy League schools for some majors. I won’t even get into value.

Yeah but a gender studies degree from Mississippi State is as valuable as a PhD in Illegal Immigrantology from Texas.

LSU is just objectively a better school than Ole Miss. shite list. LA kids who can't get into LSU go to Ole Miss. I personally know 5 of them.

Aggy getting big dogged in 9 out of 10 academic rankings and lists every year is never not funny, despite the pragmatic reality is that UT is 1a and A&M is 1b for the majority of Texas kids and families.
I'm one of the rare Texas Exes who would be fine with my kids going to A&M because a) it's impossible to get into these days as a merely above average guy with a high HHI and b) in all my professional experience all over this state, Longhorns and Aggies are both productive, high earners and in real life Aggies aren't as insufferable as they are on these messageboards.

Most professors are elitist who look down on anything related to southern states.

That wont be the case much longer if they keep expanding enrollment at A&M to take all the kids left out from UTs capped enrollment.
Texas is too big of a state for UT and A&M to be the only high quality state universities. Tech, Tx St, UH, and UNT need to get their shite together so A&M can reduce and then cap enrollment like UT has.
