These ratings are contrived using criteria that has absolutely no bearing on the quality of education provided

These rankings are hot garbage. Ask Johns Hopkins for their take.

All while college as a whole becomes less important to thousands not headed for medical, engineering, accounting, legal, or academic careers.
With all the billions spent on campus facilities the classroom is now largely irrelevant. Paying OOS tuition for your kid to take online courses is largely moronic.

If you're not No. 1 then you're not worth mentioning. So if you're not MIT sit down.

No one doing hiring outside of alumni differentiate between these schools from a quality standpoint.
The only schools with any particular prestige are Vandy, Texas and to a lesser degree A&M, UF and UGA.
A&M gets a slight boost only because their alumni seem to go above and beyond to hire their grads.

honestly I had no idea Bama was that bad. They are offering DFW kids left and right academic scholarships. I know two people at my church that have kids that are there on full rides. I assumed they were at least top 100

Ranking schools instead of colleges/majors is stupid.
They do rank majors and schools though. Texas is top 10 for what I went to school for.

The OP didn’t list those. He listed school rankings as a gotcha.
Did you know that 20% of the ranking score is through peer survey? That is the most heavily weighted metric in their system. So a very significant percentage of the score is basically a popularity contest. Of course ivy leaguers are going to score other ivy league schools highly and shite on public universities because they are better than them. Another 5% is based upon faculty salary, the higher the better. Again, this is going to automatically favor ivy league and private schools with their exorbitant tuition rates over public universities.
No where do they consider return on investment.
U.S. News does their annual rankings to turn a profit, not because they care about what universities are really best.
