All this was said about Dan Mullen, too, and of course he left MissSt for Florida. Most thought he came out very well overall because he got a big win in the end financially. The same holds true for whoever leaves for Nebraska, assuming of course the package with money is there.

I believe that with nil and the transfer portal, Nebraska can win big again. They already have added several pieces to the offense this season. Their fan support is second to none. If you can win at Baylor and Utah, you can win at Nebraska.

Yeah. He seems to be a good cat.
You guys seem to have your man now in Heupel. I always thought that Charley Strong screwed the pooch by not taking the job. He would have done quite well there.

Arkansas fired Ken Hatfield after going 55-17-1 from 1984-1989. I don’t think we’ve had a coach with that kind of win % before or since.

Nebraska has more money than literally every single school in the sec, including Alabama. Add to that the new B1G contract and they could easily afford to pay a coach $15M/year if they wanted to. So when you ask “what coach would want to coach there?”… Hell, you could fail your way to generational wealth…
Lol ok dude

I wonder if Jeff Traylor would be interested if Nebraska was. I didn’t read all the posts so I’m not sure if someone dropped his name. Great assistant at Texas, GREAT recruiter (Nebraska could use that), has shown some mettle at UTSA now. May not have enough head coach experience at a tier that they’d like though.

Hatfield wasn't fired but had enough and quit. Ever since that error Arkansas football just couldn't recover and when it did for a brief moment, a disaster like the Bobby motorcycle crash put it in the dumpster again.

SIAP, but lets not forget they did the same thing to Frank Solich. He was 58-19 in his tenure and they got rid of him for not winning enough.

Heupel is a gift. He’s saved our program from some really ugly times

Mullen would at least get them bowling.

Saban will trade BOB for Scott Frost.

The rumor is this is who they are after. It would be a good move for them.

I've seen Campbell's name mentioned. Also Jim Leonard. I wonder if either of them would be interested.

Didn’t Ole Miss do a very similar thing with David Cutcliffe back in the day?
No. Cutcliffe was fricking awful. He took some of our most talented teams ever to nothing. We saw the same mistakes every single week. They never were fixed and they never changed anything. I was with the team for Tuberville and Cutcliffe and their practices were amazingly different. Tubs had them practicing hard while Cut's practices could hardly even be called walkthroughs. He was absolutely clueless when it came to running a program top to bottom.

I think it's imperative that Nebraska formulate a plan BEFORE they hire a coach. Identify your recruiting footprint, come up with an identity that both fits within that framing, and also provides a path forward for your program. Accept that there is far too much damage to just take the 4 year plan that most blue bloods hire by and commit to a long term project. If Nebraska does these things they will struggle, but if they stick to it, they could be a top 20 team a la Wisconsin. And from there they can keep building.

Nebraska is going to have to have someone who recruits his arse off, is honest and plain-spoken, and has a great rapport with the kids. By all accounts, that ain’t Mullen. I’ll be the first to admit, I thought we were all fricked when Mullen went to Florida. Turns out Florida was. If Mullen can’t do it in Gainesville, he sure as hell isn’t in Lincoln.

He did a pretty good job at Duke...

Is that how Tennessee ended up with Heupel?

Screwed up when they fired Frank Solich. All that guy did was win, then went over to Ohio and won there for another 20 seasons.

Mullen was a bad hire for Florida.
