I might as well just watch NFL at that point
You might as well watch it now. It's the same professional sport but with less talented players and less team continuity. This does nothing to change the portal/NIL. That's a separate deal which will require a whole lot of other concessions from schools before the players give any on that.

Agreed. Transfer portal solved

LOLI highly doubt it.

If a player is gonna get paid by the school he transfers to why would he care if he breaks his contract?

You don't need nice facilities if you pay well. Your average joe will work in a shack if paid enough.

Yep. All this money being paid to kids that are barely shaving is ridiculous. If I want to watch rich kids play sports I can catch a game at Highland Park high school. I can't wait for the military to lawyer up and complain that the the old people are profiteering off of them. Lots of DOD money to go around.

Are you under the assumption that military members work for free?

the University of Alabama will just pay a sponsorship fee to attach their name and logos to a professional minor league team

I mean everything we've been talking about for years has been leading up to this — paying the players, who are now employees and not actual students, in a super-conference made up of divisional teams with a playoff structure. Salary caps, roster management, contracts, agents.

Everything "professional" we don't like about a sport, crammed into and overriding the amateur version that we actually do, somehow (presumably) resulting in a hybrid version that will be simultaneously worse that either system in incorporates.

No wonder Nick Saban got the frick out.

Are you under assumption that D1 full athletic scholarships are not more valuable than the earnings of an enlisted man?

What person would choose to enlist in the army over a full ride to Ole Miss or Florida?

Yep. It's hard to hit a moving target that is invisible.

Title 9 has no affect on this b/c the athletes of revenue producing sports will soon be employees.

I want to see the litigation over what is deemed "true NIL" and not pay for play and the market rates of NIL. The market rate in Austin, TX can't be the same as Starkville, MS.

To be clear, none of this is NIL. That’s still going to be in play and vary widely.

Very few people chose the military over a full athletic scholarship before

Then I suspect that whomever competes for the school in any endeavor against another school will eventually be paid from that pot of gold?

I assume that's the catch-22, and probably the inherent structure that will be built-in to protect the institutions — it will either be treated as a separate entity so as not to invite similar claims, meaning it will have to operate apart from the "student athletes," or else if kept in-house, those other non-revenue "student athletes" will be lopped off so as to avoid all similar claims.

In other words, this will either not resemble amateur college athletics at all, or other sports will simply be cut.

I can't imagine a scenario where both still exist.
