I’d amend it to say starting when you attend your first day of being a full-time student as everyone’s start may vary as mentioned with a maximum of 5 years, but then have a maximum age of 26.
Hell no.

I like it, but what's keeping this from getting caught up/struck down in the courts like the previous eligibility rules?

Can't wait to hold my kid back 2 grades so he's 19 at graduation.

If someone graduates high school at 19, then does a 3 year military term as suggested, that puts them at 22 starting off, meaning their 5th and final year they would be 26.

Agreed.

Way too old. 22 should be the maximum age allowable to play collegiate athletics.

The exceptions in the past is what gave the courts openings, and so the concept here is this rule doesn't have old exceptions like medical redshirts so judges don't have room to maneuver.

Really though its clear that courts are out to get the NCAA, and so until Congress acts not much can be improved long-term.

And I say no to that

But it does sound like NCAA is making a military exemption

There shouldn't be whatsoever. If they choose to go on a mission trip that has nothing to do with collegiate athletics. I am all for religious freedoms but you can't use that as a way to get an advantage, which it would be.

I’m sure complaints are already being drafted to file in federal court to challenge this.

Will the courts allow programs to prevent someone from earning a living based on their age? What is the NCAA going to do, issue a sternly worded letter that will be read during the basketball tournament they put together?

The NCAA has no authority whatsoever to do anything other than promote a basketball tournament. Their authority is only as good as the last round of litigation and they have proven to be horrible at litigating. It is far more likely that the courts will rule that age, time since graduating high school, number of years playing or anything else is grounds for prohibiting an individual from earning a living at their trade. This may stave off the inevitable but barring congressional intervention that is where we are heading and that intervention is as likely to be worse than it is to fix anything given the current state of politics in the US. The consumer wants something done, there is no doubt of that, but the consumer matters as much as a fart in the wind....

Disagree. What do I care if a 40 year old enrolls that has never played and makes the team. Those dudes aren't the issue...it is the guys that want to play college ball for 7 different teams over the course of a decade that are messing it up.
